If ppl can't appreciate a dude who missed basically 3 years went up in weight fought 3 so-so fights and went straight for the top guy with no catchweight going against a human tank of a fighter they are plain hating....what Ward did was VERY VERY special....there's a handful of guys in history who could have ate that punch (and he was hurt....he would never admit it)....and came back and kept their composure. Anyone else at LHW would have gotten steamrolled.
He was hurt in that round I don't think specifically by that punch though, Kov didn't turn it over or fully extend.

I agree with everything else though. Likewise as much as he's a POS, you have to give Kov props. Although I think he'll get washed in the re-match.

After seeing the fight I still can't think of the three things JDJ said were exploitable, except dre's lack of head movement,

I truly believed his lack of head movement was slight portion of age and ring rust. Cause even though his face got marked up a lot he surprisingly took little damage overall...and considering who he fought is legendary.

I don't think he's adjusted his boxing skills to the speed of 175 completely, if that makes sense.

I can buy that. Let's be honest here...Kovalev is also a straight animal and a lot of the typical Ward things he could do he had to do a modified version due to the size, jab and power of his opponent. Kudos to him and his team adjusting to body jabs and rib shots and moving to Kovalev's left to neutralize that right hand.

id have to rewatch but kovalev was bothering ward with his jab and connected with the most meaningful shots after the feeling out
Thanks Pat.

I just rewatched the fight, and inbetween the 11 n 12th JDJ n Kov didn't exchange words, at all :heh:

Another Gold Medal
Again, with all PPV's, not apples to apples, which is why is can't and shouldn't be a direct comparison to Floyd...or GGG.

GGG-Lemieux was based off a 150k break even, with both guys getting $2 million ish.
Ward- Kovalev had a bigger purse, with Ward getting $5 million and Kovalev $2 million.
I thought I heard the break even was around 250k...but dont quote me on that.

I think based on the matchup Kovalev-Ward is a far superior matchup and should do more based off that..but HBO did a shytty job promoting it.

All said and done, I expect the PPV numbers to be fine for what should be expected of it, except for Ward's purse, but that is on Roc Nation, kudos to Ward for negotiating a great deal.

This fight has brought out too much GGG talk...we should keep it Ward-Kovalev because they gave us a great fight and deserve the credit. But if we are talking PPV numbers...I think the biggest story is still Pacquiao's latest numbers. Shunned by HBO and once a box office star, turned in mediocre at best, most likely very disappointing PPV performance.

it's not apple's to apple's when its nikkas like Floyd/Canelo/Pac every else though YUP.

As far as my ggg comments well friend simply don't reply no one is forcing you to put your cape on for golovkin you in here on some "leave him alone in his cheap seats lets talk about Kovalev/Ward :to: "

that's exactly what we've been doing I have more posts about this fight in this thread than you do.

As far as the rest of that I break even amount i highly doubt it's 250k (damn near close to Canelo vs jobber #s..) :stopitslime: for two guys who have never sold 1 ppv before and one isn't a ratings or attendance draw in Kov. When it was your boy there were interviews specifically stating anything under 150k is failure there has been none of that said for this fight and just like Cotto Rocnation pays parts of Ward's purse.

tl:dr fat dan don't know shyt, ppv sold over 97k, unified 175 champ, #1 p4p, you can do nada

Kim and vinnie paz etc caping for kovalev
Vinnie Paz from JMT? I like their music and his rugged voice but that guy isn't that likable.

And Steve Kim can just vanish without a trace I wouldn't care, I'd be even happy, one of the most annoying media members. People like him and Doug Fischer caping for Kovalev so hard makes me eve more confident in my scoring (Ward 115-113).

If someone scored it for Kovalev that's fine, if someone cries a robber then those ppl can :camby: and never come back
