Yu Suzuki's blessing arcades again

Looks crazy

It looks like the Tokyo Game Show 2018 news keep on coming out, this time its our boy Yu Suzuki who has announced to be producing a upcoming virtual reality arcade game called VRSUS. Yu Suzuki joins JPPVR Corporation that makes VR rigs for arcades as part of the software development subsidiary company VRes. He joined the live stream to talk about his history with VR including talking about the 1991 failed SEGA VR headset that never made it to market.

Unsurprisingly Yu Suzuki said the reason he really wanted to work on VR is because he thinks it will “liven up” arcades, which have been in a decline for awhile.

“In its current state it is a true prototype, and I’m still feeling out which aspects will make for an interesting game. Going forward I’d like to work with things like ‘bullet time’ (which slows down time) and the concept of dodging through a slew of balls within a 3D confined space” – Yu Suzuki

I’ll tell you my opinion, I’m not shocked that Yu Suzuki would take a job making a arcade game. While a lot of Shenmue fans adore him for that title, Yu Suzuki’s real passion would always be with arcade games and you can see it considering the reason he left SEGA was because they weren’t investing in their arcade division like they used to. Not because they wouldn’t do Shenmue III, but because he couldn’t make big budget arcade games like he used to. I hope this project works out.

But a little bit inside me has me a bit worried that Yu Suzuki might be stretching himself out too much. We still haven’t gotten Shenmue III finalized gameplay footage and he announces he is working on another project? While fans will say that he can work on more than one project at a time, its just troubling considering how long Shenmue III has taken and how we haven’t gotten any finalized media yet. What are your thoughts?

:ohhh::dwillhuh::wow:let me google some shyt
This guy does videos on em. Mainly they get produced and/or professionally released by a company called JoshProd, owned by a guy who buys video game distribution rights and licenses. he got famous for getting a few PSP titles ported to Dreamcast (partnered with the company that made em)

the Official PSP game that was ported to Dreamcast this year

They all got official styled cases and professionally pressed discs like DC has. they 1:1 a fully official dreamcast game, just without the SEGA logo since SEGA isnt involved atm

New SEGA arcade racer “ATV Slam” revealed – to debut at IAAPA 2018

Via Arcade Heroes comes the news that SEGA Amusements will be debuting a new arcade racer at next month’s IAAPA 2018 trade show in Orlando, FLorida. The game is titled ATV Slam and, as the title suggests, is an ATV racer. This appears to be a new IP created by SEGA, as Arcade Heroes could not dig up any information on the game outside of this announcement. On our end, it appears to be a new IP as well.

The game is said to feature an upgrade system, three game modes and fifteen bikes to unlock. Arcade Heroes also noted that the press release mentions a “custom developed motion platform” for riders and a “unique ‘Artificial Intelligence’ system” that is said to make the game fun for both casual and core gamers. Click on over to Arcade Heroes for more information, including a gallery of screens.

When we learn more, we’ll be sure to share it! I’m most interested in learning who is the development team behind the game.

It has been officially announced that Forever Entertainment and SEGA will be releasing Panzer Dragoon: Remake and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake! The first title is due out by late 2019, and while we don’t have platforms just yet it is likely that it will release to modern consoles and possibly PC. The games will feature brand new graphics and will remain faithful to the game’s original story. It is mentioned that “several modifications” will be made to the game to make it “more attractive to modern players”. This could be disconcerting, if they veer too far off from the original gameplay, but we’re hoping it isn’t too radically different.

The official press release:

Forever Entertainment together with SEGA Holding Co., Ltd. from Japan will co-create and publish Panzer Dragoon: Remake and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei: Remake. The premiere of the first part is planned before the end of 2019!

Panzer Dragoon: Remake is a refreshed version of Panzer Dragoon. The original version of the game had its premiere on the Sega Saturn console in 1995 and was well received by both players and critics. The entire Panzer Dragoon series has been repeatedly remade and released on many platforms. The last re-launch took place in April 2018 on Xbox One, where players can play Panzer Dragoon Orta with a backward compatibility. The new version of the game will be characterized by a completely new graphics compatible with today’s standards and several modifications of the game, making it more attractive to modern players, while remaining faithful to the original in terms of story. The first materials from the game will be presented in the upcoming months!

DotEmu has released some new Streets of Rage 4 screenshots, one including a gameplay gif showing off the game’s new juggling mechanic. You can view that up on top in video format.

Below we have a few new screenshots showing off more of Streets of Rage 4’s art style. So far the screenshots don’t show anything brand new, still only includes Axel and Blaze. I guess we will see more announcements come 2019.

Retro-bit Gaming reveals SEGA Nomad styled portable Genesis

The 2019 Consumer Electronics Show is underway, and Retro-bit (the ones behind those SEGA controllers) tweeted out photos of a prototype of what they call the Genesis Portable System. The handheld resembles the beloved SEGA Nomad, with several differences. Aside from different button shapes and placement, the portable promises HDMI out and has a widescreen display. Based on the photos, there is an NTSC/PAL switcher and a reset button (which made X-Men unbeatable on the Nomad thanks to the “reset the computer” feature). The bottom hasn’t been seen, so no idea if there is a player 2 controller input. Also no promise of an SD card slot yet.

Despite the Nomad resemblance, it is important to note that this is not a Nomad and there is no promise of quality emulation yet. I know the Nomad gets a lot of grief for the battery life, but I have to say as a longtime Nomad owner that battery technology has improved to the point where one can get 6 hours of playtime on quality rechargables. Heck, I had a 3DS die on me in less time than that. Coupled with near perfect sound and the ability to mod the display to modern technology on a Nomad, this Genesis Portable System is no heir to the Nomad throne just yet. We’ll share more as we hear it!

Update: Retro-bit confirmed a player 2 input in a tweet to us.
