Face buttons need color :dame:
These look really clean as they are and I can see why they went without, but I agree and would like the traditional colours on there..
I'm sure that there will be black controllers with the coloured buttons in future, even if they are just limited edition ones and not packed in with a future black console.
I also expect to see OG grey ones too, like the PS4 20th anniversary ones:

PS5 Production Is Ramping Up, And Sony Could Have 9-10 Million Ready By Launch

PS5 Production Is Ramping Up, And Sony Could Have 9-10 Million Ready By Launch
Sony is reportedly going to order 3 million more PS5 consoles than previously expected due to an increase in demand related to COVID-19.
By Eddie Makuch on July 16, 2020 at 11:31PM PDT

A new report from the Nikkei Asian Review has some interesting details on the PlayStation 5. The site's sources claim that Sony is significantly increasing its shipment projection for the next-generation console. This comes after a report from April said PS5's launch supply could be lower than that of the PS4, but now that apparently will not be the case.

The company has increased its production orders from 6 million units to 9 million units, though the window of time for their production was not mentioned in the report. These units will be assembled at Sony's new factory in Japan where robots outnumber humans. Separately, Bloomberg reported that Sony is aiming to produce 10 million PS5 consoles by the end of 2020. That wouldn't necessarily mean that 10 million make it to store shelves by the end of the year.

"The electronics giant has informed assembly partners and suppliers it’s radically increasing orders for its next-generation console, though logistics may yet pose a challenge to delivering all those machines on time for the holiday shopping season, the people said, asking to remain anonymous," Bloomberg reported.

Nikkei's sources mentioned that order numbers could change in either direction based on market demand, so the 9-10 million figure is likely not set in stone.

Neither report had any details on the breakdown of production orders for the PS5 by SKU. In addition to the standard PS5, Sony is producing a disc-free PS5 known as the PS5 Digital Edition. On top of these two consoles, Sony will continue to manufacture the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.

Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad noted on Twitter, "Producing 10 million by the end of the calendar year sure is something if this report is true. It shows that they expect strong demand both at launch and through 2021." He added that Sony shipped only 4.5 million PS4 units by the end of 2013, and that it wasn't until June 2014 (following its November 2013 launch) that 10 million consoles had been shipped to retail.

Karn Chauhan, a senior analyst with Counterpoint, told Nikkei Asian Review it makes sense that Sony would seek to increase its production pipeline for the PS5 due to the pandemic and how it's led to a surge in gaming. "During the pandemic, the gaming industry witnessed a record number of online player additions as more consumers are considering gaming as entertainment at home," Chauhan said.

The same Nikkei Asian Review report said Facebook is looking to increase the production of Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets to 2 million units.

Recently, a pre-order page for the PS5 went live on Amazon, prompting some people to speculate that Sony might announce a release date and price soon. As of yet, that hasn't happened, but the console is confirmed to release this holiday season.

'We believe in generations:' PlayStation argues cross-gen games risk stifling innovation
July 17, 2020 | By Alissa McAloon
“As we’ve said many times, with PlayStation 5 it’s a brand new generation, and we believe in generations. So we want to evolve every part of the experience. ”

- PlayStation global marketing head Eric Lempel talks generational jumps with Geoff Keighley.

PlayStation plans to make a clear jump to the next console generation and offer many games as next-gen exclusives, an approach that’s nearly opposite to how Xbox is handling the transition to the next generation but one that highlights PlayStation’s focus on evolution for the PlayStation 5.

As PlayStation global marketing head Eric Lempel explained to Geoff Keighley during the latest Summer Games Fest video (via IGN), PlayStation sees a clear line between console generations as a necessity, and one that helps drive the development of innovative and unique games for the PlayStation 5.

“In many cases, we can’t take everybody with us from previous consoles into [a next generation experience],” Lempel tells Keighley. “You need new hardware, you need new devices to experience what these developers want you to experience.”

That nod toward PlayStation’s belief in clear generational lines seems like a slightly tongue-in-cheek comment about how Sony’s next system fundamentally differs from Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X and its plan to release first-party titles on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X generation for at least the next few years.

Particularly for Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart developer Insomniac Games, Lempel says that the features and evolutions found in many upcoming PlayStation 5 titles is so tightly tied to the games being developed that it wouldn’t be possible for PlayStation devs to offer those games for both PlayStation 5 and the current generation PlayStation 4.

“When you look at a game like Ratchet, and we’ve talked about a lot of different features today but as you’ve mentioned we haven’t mentioned SSD, that is another thing that will make the whole gaming experience different, it’ll make it better, but it also allows the developers to do new things.”

“It isn’t just about faster loading time. You take a great developer like Insomniac and they found a way to say ‘ok look, here’s a game that could only be made on PlayStation 5, on this generation, using this technology.’ A lot of what you saw on the show, jumping through those different worlds instantly can’t be done in most cases. It needs new hardware, it needs new power,” Lempel tells Keighley. “So that’s something we’re looking forward to. All these things come together. You combine that with 3D audio, with the controller, ray tracing. I mean these are great experiences and these developers know how to harness every piece of those features to really bring you a unique experience. And that really speaks to what next gen is for us.”

When asked if it would be possible to make the same game for PlayStation 5, Lempel elaborates: “It would be a different experience. According to everything Insomniac has told us, this hardware allows them to deliver on this vision. They could not make it [on PlayStation 4]. If they did it would just be different. You would be playing a different type of game and the experience would be different.”
