what are some good spots to go to take pictures beside parks? :lupe:

I would say the downtown areas of your city, maybe grab a tripod do some long exposure night shots. Depending on where your located and whats going on, I like to hit the fairs and festivals and just capture shots from food to people.

do you have any suggestions for a good travel kit as far as soft boxes, lights, diffusers and reflectors go? I am trying to assemble a kit that can fit in a carry-on bag. and i don't mean the ones that attach to the camera.

Can we talk about lens hoods breh?

I am definitely going to get one, but should I get the Canon one for the 17-55mm?:lupe:

Apparently there are other models that can fit on it but they are cheaper. Wondering if they wouldn't give a tight fit or something.

$50 for a piece of plastic. :childplease: Eta: Not sure why the link isn't showing up but it is the Canon EW-83J Lens Hood

I was thinking about going on ebay, but apparently there are fake versions of these hoods. :mindblown:

Please advice me breh.

Yea, Canon will run up in you for accessory pricing, my 17-55mm came with the Canon hood. Like @Supreme Leader Reinscarf mentioned, if you wanna save some cash hit up Ebay for a used Canon one or check B&H and Amazon for a 3rd party, check the reviews. I used a 3rd party lens hood for my 50mm, no issues at all. I would also look into a UV/protective filter for the front glass.

I only have experience with Alien Bee's and the external flashes with mini-umbrellas. The kit from Alien Bee is here:

Paul C. Buff - The Queen Bee Package

Pretty much everything to get you going, provided you have access to wall plugs.

I stopped using a UV/protective filter on my lens because my lens hood is always on so there was really not point of having a UV filter on my glass if I have the hood to protect my lens.

I only use them when I'm outside in bad conditions, they came in handy at a few dirtbike races being trackside or in the middle.
