peace coli fam. I have a model photoshoot coming up next week. What are the basic neccessites for an indoor shoot? I am aware there is lighting and backdrop involved but I am unsure on how to use to the equipment and the basic setup. It's a paid gig so I want to make sure to give A1 service and have a proffessional look. I'm shooting with Canon rebel t5 with the standard kit lens and a 50mm

Damn man kind of short notice
If you want to give her A1 service, step one is rent some good glass from
Borrowlenses.com or LensRental.com
Rent a 35mm or a 85mm f1.8 at least
fukk the kit lens
As far as lighting which will be your biggest hurdle here, do you have lighting equipment or renting a studio? In your case under expose the picture and let the flash do the work, study those pictures up above that someone posted with all the helpful info and I'll try to find you a video about lighting.

What kind of flash equipment you have? Strobes? Speed light at least you can connect to your hot shoe and bounce off the ceiling.

If you dont have the ability to practice with strobes, then i'd natural light it. cop a reflector which is way cheaper, have a homie come with you to hold the reflector and run with that. also rent some fast glass if you can. you can get off with a kit lens tho

To add to this, I would find a friend and practice shooting and lighting, preferably this week or when you can before this upcoming shoot. I did this when I bought my strobes and ext-flashes.

Bet. There's a lake nearby a couple of towns over from where I live. I'll decide to shoot there during the daytime instead. What camera do you shoot with and are you on social media? (insta)

I can tell you that when I did a search on studio strobes before I bought mine, Alien Bees kept coming up as top rated products with excellent customer service. The build quality, options, and durability is great, also availability to get replacement parts and accessories when you need it. I've been using the same ones for damn near 8+ years, no issues. Very easy to setup and use.

Yeah you just want to practice for various scenarios so you're not learning on the spot day off.

I've been a fan of photography since I was a kid on Myspace.

Always tried taking flicks and shyt, got way better over the years but never really went for it. It's harder to stand out now too I think. Nowadays its so easy. EVERYONE is a fukking photographer on IG. Hate that its kind of a cliche. Part of all this I feel is to find a way around it...but whatever.

But around November I finally bought myself a freaking camera. Nikon D5300. Came with so much shyt, tripod, controller, external flash, a fake-ish wide and telephoto lens, a bag, etc, for about $600.

I really wanted the D5500, but the the price difference was too steep based on the fact that the specs are nearly identical, outside of the touch screen.

But yeah, I'm glad I found this thread. Definitely going to post some stuff, feedback/advice is appreciated brehs. I pretty much keep it on Manual cause I'm still learning the basics.

P.S I only have the very default lens it comes with. 18-55mm VR.

As I take more pictures I now see how limited I am with just this one lens. Really need more. It's just crazy because I see lens usually more expensive than the actual body. Kind of lost here. Where should I begin my search? Any recommendations for a wide lens? I've seen a much better "default" lens, 18-140mm, should I look into it? What about a telephoto lens? Any reply is very much appreciated brehs.

get the tamron 17-50 2.8 or the sigma 17-50 2.8 if you balling get the nikon 17-55 2.8. that sigma idope, but you not really get too much of a difference on a crop sensor with the range of 18-35

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
questions brehs

what's the best way to shoot? viewfinder or flip out screen?

i figured they were both the same seeing how it's the lens and camera do the work. just different how you want to look at the view. but then my boy told me the viewfinder is better. that's where you get the "47 points of focus" and that doesn't happen when you live view. plus processes the pic faster if you want to take them in rapid succession

so of course i go to the net for more info.... it's split 50/50 on which one take the better photos

so let me ask the coli brehs since i tend to like the type of photos y'all take and it lines up with what i take also
