alright so I'm definitely not a photographer, and I'm pretty clueless about cameras and such. Got an old nikon D70 for free from an acquaintance, hadn't really used it until about 10 minutes ago.
stepped out my front door to get something someone dropped off, and there was a huge owl on our front brick wall, maybe 15 feet away. got back inside, got the camera, and turned an outside light on because it was getting dark.
I guess my question is, why can't dslr (and I admit I haven't tried looking this up or reading into it) just take a plain photo with flash, like my iphone can, or a smaller fujifilm shock/water/dust etc. proof camera I have can.
I got a photo or two, came out shytty of course, but is it because it's an old camera, or do all cameras in that category do that? If there's not enough lighting, or an object is too close or too far, it's like the lens is sizing it up, zooming in and out, and can't actually take the photo of what you see through the viewfinder (even if it looks like it could come out ok). I guess if someone can explain that like I'm a camera retard, that'd be appreciated.
