Basically they went from being outsiders to insiders. Once they got a little fame and access now there were consequences for talking reckless. Plus it seems Mal is uncomfortable with fame to a degree so he became a lot more closed off about his own life. I'm too lazy to go back and verify and listen but I also think once his old tweets came up it seems he doesn't talk near as crazy as he used to out of fear of being cancelled.
