It's literally the exact same problem Joe had in his music career.

My thing is though, if you're going to expect your label/streaming platform/partner to do most of the work outside of creating the content, you can't be surprised when they want more money than you'd like.

As someone who's podcasted before, it's nowhere near as simple as just making sure the show itself is good. An absolute fukkton of work goes into making a podcast popular and profitable and keeping it that way. And, whether it's just one person, or a giant corporation, you deserve to get paid for your work.
It’s podcasting lol. What work are Spotify has to do. They still working out of parks basement. Ain’t like Spotify been promoting them to make them bigger. Joes hot takes been doing that lol.

Seem like the only thing they put money into was they shows and they got paid for that.

joe budden pod is literally as popular as it was before Spotify lol. They didn’t do anything to boost them. They just gave them money to put it on they platform exclusively

shyt would be 6 hours long
nah shyt would short. “I never heard of that before” “I don’t get it” “that’s wild” the end

Well it’s not a democracy. Their entire earning potential from This depends on how invested Joe is in podding.

honestly I feel sorry for them because Joe is so overwhelming important to this entire operation that they can’t do anything but move as he moves
yea he carried them here, they have no other choice

He not out his deal with Spotify yet. He was clearly hinted at other platforms and I’m sure they have deals in place.

they don’t need a deal if it’s a rape.

imagine signing a deal and you heavy out performed and nikka come back to you with a 360 deal :russ::russ::lolbron:

Sounds like a rape deal. They gonna do they thing and eat elsewhere

Joe Rogan and Bill Simmons deal was revealed months before joining spotify.

Why haven't Joe Budden announced his new big deal?

:ohhh:

I'll wait

To double back on the Spotify talk....

The fact that Joe didn't seem to understand why Spotify was against them either having no episodes or half assed episodes over the holidays speaks volumes about his mindset, and why he isn't where he thinks he should be in success.

Failure to understand, or at least see the bigger picture from multiple angles will always kneecap your earning potential. Joe was thinking about taking time off. Spotify was looking at that week span traditionally being a higher volume consumption period for all forms of media, and especially streaming audio services. Them either taking that time off, or coming with a half assed episode (which, let's be honest, is exactly what would've happened if they tried to pound out their normal schedule of episodes along with pre recording a couple of extras) wouldn't have worked out in the way they thought it would.

Also, Joe effectively engineered them offering the equivalent of a 360 deal by running the video version on YouTube. I think when they got the first deal done, either both sides underestimated how many people were willing to wait for video (or, probably more accurately, are already conditioned to using YouTube with its methods of monetizing viewers, over starting to deal with Spotify), or the pod's side of the negotiations willingly misrepresented the video audience. Either way, they had to know that Spotify wasn't going to be cool with leaving money on the table that's going to another direct competitor (don't forget YouTube Music is a thing, and gives the bonus of eliminating ads on YouTube). It also doesn't help their argument that The Pull Up is run on the same channel as the pod. Makes it easy for Spotify to argue that a considerable portion of the views for that show come from people who were originally there for the podcast they're supposedly paying to make exclusive.

What's baffling is that from the outside looking in, it seems like the easy answer was to counter with offering to move the video version of the pod to Spotify exclusively, and then give The Pull Up its own channel to fully separate the two. Then, even if it's a bullshyt deal, have any future promos of Dussrpalooza, or other projects appear to be paid. Their whole argument for getting into their pockets for everything else was that all those Ms Joe was bragging about seeing were promoted or set up on what was effectively company time, since they were paying for those episodes.

For a guy that essentially brags about never having had a real job, Joe is out here showing that he hasn't learned one of the most important lessons of being an employee: don't develop shyt that can be proven was done on the company's time, or the company's dime.

Valid points. The way he explained it was like he wrote the contract and they blessed off on it initially, but down the road had different interpretations of the stipulations. To me, it sounds like they were both using each other. Spotify used the JBP to get the podcast arm of the company off the ground, JBP used them for a check and a means to promote other ventures. Does that entitle you to 25% of my earnings on my other ventures? Did my other ventures come from Dussepalooza/Everyday Struggle/State of the Culture and have little to nothing to do with the podcast? Just saying lol. And they didn't bless off on them having ANY days off, not just the holidays.

He needs to understand that if he was that good he would have a deal. This is outside of spotify. If you built something people will want you. Peep Bill Simmons

Joe over values himself

They should've known there value before singing the deal. This is not the 1st time he got jerked. He's not good at business

Bill Simmons sold a network to Spotify versus JBP signing a deal for exclusivity. Apples and oranges IMO. If Joe can navigate through this with rights to his IP and working bread for all his cohorts? I'd say that's pretty good at business.

Well maybe he plan on leaving and building his own thing until he gets what he wants. No reason to let somebody 360 deal you when you already a brand

Yeah. It's a tough situation, but sometimes you have to bet on yourself.

Leaving the Spotify deal not owing them a thing, owning my IP and having the ability to move on and work with another company? Sounds pretty good to me lol. To be fair, Mal and Rory gonna take a hit until the next deal comes around.

Joe wants the big corporate money like rogan, but wants to remain independent of them also. It's the perfect metaphor for the content on the podast lately.

Joe can not function under any sort of management whatsoever. I remember he went an entire episode on everyday struggle without speaking in order to make a point lol
word like this nikka tryin to be inside the house and outside the house at the same time

got all of his friends looking crazy for following his ass off the cliff in typical joe budden fashion :mjlol:

this nikka is sooooooo sad that rogan came thru actually doing all the shyt he claimed he was doing

Honestly idgaf about a centralized audience; I'd rather they put it anywhere I can find it :yeshrug:. If exclusivity makes them more money then cool, but I don't want exclusivity for centralized audience's sake. I'm technologically literate; I can find a podcast I want to listen to if it's available.

Stop ducking the question. If Joe Budden has leverage why doesn't he have a new deal announced with a month left on his spotify deal. If he was doing the numbers he's prideful about all the big companies will be lining up to give or given them the bag. Why is that,
