I saw the argument that from Matt Duss who was Bernie sanders foreign policy advisor who said progressives and pro Palestinian elements should really ask themselves what happens when the walls come down. If there will be immediate peace, or if attacks on Israeli citizens will increase to a level that is beyond acceptable, leading to an inevitable reverse of some of these exclusionary policies. I think both sides may have backed themselves into a corner that one side is gonna have to de-escalate from.

Again why so reality adverse? It’s not a “defense” as much as it is what actually happens… people here including you are wrongly stating as fact that people won’t be able to afford rent, eat, and etc because of aid packages when in fact the opposite is true. Besides the obvious benefit of domestic jobs aid packages very well could create affordable housing, lead to tax savings at the municipal and state level for taxpayers, and benefit employers and employees at a wide range of downstream businesses. You can dislike that if you want but that’s what’s actually happening not the dystopian death march that you implied. Trump and his base wrongly held the same belief as you about aid packages to the developing world. The results of his and the Republican backed aid cuts have been disastrous to public health and other sectors that we will now have to pay even more for in the long run and it would also be interesting to see cuts impacts on local economies here in the US but the covid years are going to play hell on data.
