bought a home but I am a complete novice when it comes to fixing things or using tools. is there a youtube channel or website ya'll reccomend for repairs from simple to complicated?

Just go with whichever one is easiest to follow for you. You can also tag or dm me with any questions that you might have. I have a wealth of knowledge that I'd love to share with anyone that wants to learn.

Don't cheap out on tools either, even if it means eating ramen for a couple weeks, a quality tool is worth its weight in gold

Has anyone on here ever hired an architect to design/build their home?
No, but I plan to for my remodel. I reached out to one last year before COVID hit and she was going to do a "feasibility study" for me to determine if my plans were feasible and maybe came with a drawing of the potential plans. I'm going to have to hit her back up.

Did you get an estimate for what they'd charge? Were the architects gonna hire someone they knew to carry out the plans?

Unfortunately, no. COVID hit shortly after so I never got a chance to move forward. From what I understand, the architect company can provide a construction component or you can just ask for a rendering.

Everywhere...You never there.
I’m tellin y’all ... DO YOUR HOMEWORK before choosing a contractor . Vet them thoroughly . Multiple sources . Difficult to find good contractors these days and it seems to be getting worse, so you really gotta be on point on with who you hire . Make a list of specific questions too and try to do your own research about the type of project being undertaken so you can have some familiarity with the process and terminology . Also , don’t do MIA when they start work . Check in often .

and most importantly, DO NOT cut coroners on price . If you know a reputable , well vetted contractor who is more expensive , pay the money . :manny: ... especially for more involved projects . Because if you decide to go cheap, you usually always get what you pay for

And often going cheap leads to a myriad of other problems that arise from shoddy workmanship and then the domino effect happens of shyt that needs to be corrected and fixed so you end up paying more money anyway . :snoop:

Best advice in this thread. Even seemingly good contractors you gotta stay on top of. lots of them be full of shyt

My young slime finally showed up yesterday. Vent covers should be arriving this week too.

Had an old vent that developed some dryrot, so i ripped it all out and expanded it into a crawlspace entrance this weekend since it's closer to my livingroom where I'm often running wires to and from. Just gotta grab some plywood to re-retrofit the area that I demo'd now. Put a light bevel on the top of the door and bottom of framing to direct any water towards the outside of the house so that this doesn't happen again.

Any way to determine what we are saving outside of getting a quote from a contractor?

I scrapped about 3200 sq feet of popcorn ceiling and then skim coated flat before a knockdown finish

How much would that cost? It was hard work but I got it done in about a week

Just trying to bring the new place up to speed with my last spot

Previous owner just seemed to do everything half ass

Look at this shyt bruh

nearest cheapest gas station

Most contractors charge time and materials +20% and do shyt work. Just invest in the tools and learn to do it yourself.
