So my property improvement value went from $133k to $142. Total ~$168k now.
Fully realizing that this is a double edged sword. Yeah, your property is worth more now, but my monthly payment has also went up close to $100..which is one of the main things I was trying to avoid when deciding to buy vs rent. Harsh realities :mjcry:

Why did your mortgage go up though? Abd what do you mean by $168?

Is it possible to buy a house that needs some work, and rehab it/do some work on it while living there?

I’m looking at some multi families on Zillow, and most of them need work.
Yeah people do this all the time.
I only advise you, do not have tenants in there while heavy construction is going on

Land is worth 26k and the improvement is worth 142k. My total monthly payment went up due to escrow portion getting larger.
I get that but did your payment go up because of the work you did on it? I'm just not connecting the dots on why it increased. I know escrow usually increases bc either your taxes or insurance goes up.

ABSOLUTELY! You should look into a FHA 203K loan. That loan is made for what you're asking. What area are you looking in if you dont mind me asking?

Ah. Nah, the area has some money going into new shopping areas and road expansions, so it seems property values shot up sharply from last year to this one.9k extra in property value is quite a bit more in tax per year.
I would like to see the exact reasoning though..cause the uptick from the previous year was less than half that.
