Anybody ever done (preventative) termite treatment? We had a neighbor that had to do $15k of repairs due to termite damage but Orkin out here quoting a couple grand for some 5 year protection plan with stakes in the ground and shyt.

Yeah, there is a way to be ok with Section 8 without being naive/stupid or

You need to ask for personal information to run a background check/credit reference through one of the common tenant screening services. Also if they are responsible they will agree to give you their past landlord as a reference. If the references check out and there are no red flags on credit/criminal record, you just have to worry about the repeated inspections/corrective action a section 8 tenant will bring. Section 8 will have you fixing everything to code so if you have been delaying on repairs, do them now if you want to rent Section 8.

I have Ring's home security kit. Works well.

Was thinking of going with them for cameras too, but been reading a lot about their semi-sketchy partnerships with police departments.

Also looking for something that has local storage in addition to cloud options.

May fukk with those inexpensive Wyze cams..

Ive been researching the Ring security cameras and I think Im going to go ahead and pull the trigger and purchase 2, one for my front door and one for the back.
Anyone have any issues with installation? I want it to be wired to my doorbell chime.

Wiring should be fairly easy I did the door bell and two sets of floodlights by myself. Where it might get tricky is if you want your existing door bell to work also, that is if you want it to still buzz, some people choose to use the ring plug in chime. I at one point had both but chose to go with my existing door bell

My ring video system works extremely well 98% of the time, and I've caught interesting stuff (drunk guy at my door, drunk girl on my steps, guy getting head in my driveway) but there has been a handful of times where it hadn't worked, not that anything significant happened, ring just didn't record. Another thing you should get used to is delays and lag, it suffers from that alot (I have a 300mb connection with a Google Wifi mesh system) and even then 50% of the time I'll catch the FedEx guy as he is walking away instead of walking up.

FYI this is only with my doorbell my floodlight cameras capture everything all the time upto a dam spider

All around I think it's worth especially when combined with a security system

imo people are over paranoid, in some neighborhoods you can get a ring for free with the stipulation that police will have access to your camera if something happens. Personally I would hand over video on my own if something did happen at my place now and I paid full price

Yea ring only has cloud storage no dedicated local storage but you can download clips to your phone

Honestly if you want the best system possible it's always one of these

downside is installation is no where near as plug and play as ring and other system, plus mobile app support is not the best and requires alot of setup on your side

If I had a newer house and funds to spend and wanted imo top notch flawless security this is the system I would go with, but so far am happy with my ring + a security system

Yeah, there are a lot of options. No particular one seems to be 'perfect'.

And I really don't want to drill holes to run power and LAN and shyt.

I may just say fukk it and put up multiple battery-powered Ring Doorbells on all the external doors around our house.

I shouldn't make it about race, but the black contractor fell through. We walked through the house to get a list, he tells me to text him my email so he can email me the quotes. Wednesday morning he texts me:
Him: I haven't heard from you
Me: Dude you told me you were going to email me the quotes
Him: I sent the email two days ago.
Me: To what address because I've been checking for days. What's your email address?
Him: *provides email* I'll send it again when I get home

Still never received an email

I didn't hear from that mf again. Meanwhile, I called the white hick dude that always comes through and his son out there right now caulking windows and he scraping shyt. Pricing always fair and he communicates. I'm not saying fukk support of black businesses, but I'm not putting up with BS service JUST to say I supported a black business.

None. I pay enough for insurance to pay additional to prevent me utilizing it. I should care more, but I don’t and I take general precautions. I also feel cameras IN the house are such a lack of privacy. *knock on wood” hopefully nothing serious happens.

I don't want videos of my family uploaded to some cloud service...
