Im gonna disagree. I think the only reason it hasnt been cancelled is the production deal they have.

The show has poor ratings and isnt being nominated let alone winning awards.

Shows arent being saved by getting good reviews online. They want awards or ratings. Studios aint gonna print seasons 2's rotten tomatoes score and frame it on a wall.

If what you're saying is true "The Wire" wouldn't exist. It's only saving grace was critics loved it. David Simon himself will tell you that.

It won zero awards, wasn't even nominated most of the time, and nobody was watching it back then.

Obviously NBC would prefer it won awards but the press saying it's better than anything on premium cable is huge. It legitimizes NBC to the world.

NBC does not = HBO. You cant compare them since theyre two entirely different networks with different goals and structures. Treme got 4 seasons, wasnt talked about, didnt win awards and wasnt beloved by fans or critics. A show on HBO can last much longer then a show on one of the network stations regardless. The two situations are not at all comparable.

And where is the press saying that hannibal is better than anything on premium?

Right off the top of my head AV Club, Vulture, and TV Guide put it as the #1 show of 2014. Alan Sepinwall had it above "True Detective" and "Mad Men".

"Internet praise" might not seem like much to you but it's 2014 and 87% of the U.S. had access to the internet. These TV critics and pop culture sites are what people listen to nowadays. Award shows? Less so. Keep in mind genre shows never winning any major awards is a foregone conclusion at this point. It's part and parcel of the award process.

There's no way in hell "Hannibal" is going to win based on it's content. So it not having any wins isn't a factor.

And I'm not trying to equate NBC to HBO. I'm saying NBC has let a show ride for 3 seasons, when it should've been dead in the water after the 3rd episode of season 1. Does the international deal play a role? Obviously, but it critically going head to head with "True Detective", "Mad Men", etc. is a factor as well.

I gotta give it to "Hannibal", fairly easy. "Hannibal" is some on GOAT level cinematography right now though.

Side note about "Utopia", I love Fincher as a director but his style is very straight forward. I'm kinda :patrice:about him doing the remake.
