Hleb was great in his role for Arsenal. Carry the ball and unlock defenses. But that's the issue with most ex-Arsenal players, they are only great in this system.

When he went to Barca, everyone knew it would be curtains for him.

As for Cesc, unlucky m8. :ehh:

Arsenal would take him off their hands for the 34 million the two clubs already agreed too. :youngsabo:

Gonna need the RAWK fallout for this one :whoo:

never understood why him and flamini left and turned into shyt

flamini benefitted from playing every week in a side with other good athletes in... he never had to do any technical work but he put in a shift every game and was well supported by those around him.

it can't have hurt being in a central midfield partnership with cesc either.

hleb wasn't a bad player... admittedly couldn't score or assist for shyt, but he could unlock the defence... it's frustrating to know he was never going to score but he could suck defenders in and create openings... for what that's worth.

Assisting the assister is an underrated position (even though it's not really a position, more an on-field direction). Hleb did that perfectly. Just an underrated player all around who provided fluidity, something Arsenal hasn't had since (or at least at the level it was with that midfield when Hleb was at his peak).

As for Cesc it will be interesting. He's not exactly a Xavi replacement, and even if he was he'd face competition from Thiago and Sergi Roberto (and Busi who could potentially move forward up the field). But thing is surely Cesc knew that? I can see his frustrations but they're not exactly worth commenting on.

Shame in Hlebs day, they didnt give our individual awards for that, like they do now.
