Or are they?

It's too hard to keep up anymore :russ:

He can say what he likes but in all the articles they basically say wonder woman's success opened their eyes to possibilities and that movie was self contained for the most part

There really isn't much to connect with anyways. The bulk of the movie took place a hundred years ago. The little connection to the DCEU was the Wayne Enterprise employee delivering the photo and the email exchange between Bruce and Diana. That's good enough.

No point in having a connected universe if all your upcoming movie aren't connected to each other in some way. The next Wonder Woman movie will be set in the 80s I heard. What's the point in tying it to man of steel?

The first Avengers movie had caps McGuffin, Thors villain, Starks tower and Lokie used Hulk as a part of his plan to invade earth.
tying stuff together like took 4 films. Unless DC is willing to do that, there is no point in trying their films together. May as well do a bunch of standalone films.

The original Vulture interview only states that individual movies won't be mandated to include other characters or further a specific story. They never said they were doing away with the connected universe.
If a writer/director wants to make a Wonder Woman movie that include Flash and Amanda Waller then its cool but if a writer/director wanted to make a Green lantern movie that doesn't mention anything about anyone but Green lantern characters then that is cool too.

word, all they are saying is the dceu won't be like building blocks, they won't lead up to a culmination of a storyline... they will still absolutely be connected, but it's not the same contiguous storyline

The article I'm referring to was from comicbook.com and in it they say,

"While talking with Vulture about the future of DC Entertainment, Johns and Nelson both said they are actively taking the films away from the connected universe that existed in BvS and Suicide Squad."

they even quote DC execs saying,

“Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn’t make sense, but there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or interconnectivity in that universe,” Nelson explained.

ten two sentences later,

“The movie’s not about another movie,” said Johns. “Some of the movies do connect the characters together, like Justice League. But, like with Aquaman our goal is not to connect Aquaman to every movie.”

  • The Justice League movie that is about to come out is part of an 'overall storyline or interconnectivity in that universe' that was started in BvS.
  • The execs just said going forward they are 'actively taking the films away from the connected universe that existed in BvS and Suicide Squad.'
  • They then use JL as an example of the type of movies they just described they are actively moving away from.
  • Therefore, why would they make another JL movie that would defintely require interconnectivity, previous movies referring to future movies and probably an overall storyline?
Here is the actual text from the original source:

None of that seems to worry Nelson, and that’s partly because DC and Warner have adopted a new strategy: Let’s rethink that whole universe thing. They’re not giving up on the idea of continuity, but they want to deemphasize the idea that all of these flicks are occupying the same space. “Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn’t make sense, but there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or interconnectivity in that universe,” says Nelson, drawing nods from the top brass around her.

This new approach already has a test case, and, by any measure, it was a successful one: Wonder Woman outearned every other movie this summer while scoring a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes — higher than nearly every Marvel movie. And one of the keys, as Nelson and her execs saw it, was the fact that it more or less told the viewer to ignore the rest of the universe and just focus on what was in front of them. There was a tiny nod to Batman v Superman, but that was it. “The movie’s not about another movie,” says Johns. “Some of the movies do connect the characters together, like Justice League. But, like with Aquaman” — one of their next efforts, out in 2018 — “our goal is not to connect Aquaman to every movie.” As Nelson puts it, “Moving forward, you’ll see the DC movie universe being a universe, but one that comes from the heart of the filmmaker who’s creating them.”
Nothing in their statements makes another JL movie a question mark.
A Justice League movie would be just like Wonder Woman...a stand alone movie featuring the Justice League.
Just because these characters come together in a Justice League movie doesn't mean there needs to be some set-up in all solo movies to bring them together.
After the first JL film brings them together then the idea of a Justice League is established and future movies can just start with the team fighting whatever threat they need to face.
I am not understanding your confusion.
Maybe go the the original source instead of the Comicbook.com site that is just referencing the Vulture interview.

What if someone then wants to make an Aquaman movie featuring Amanda Waller are they allowed to just ignore the events of the previous Wonder Woman movie? Are they allowed to kill someone big and make them unavailable for future movies? Can they use a different actor for the same character? Can two characters who were friends in one movie be enemies in another with no explanation? How far doe this lack of a mandate go? Shyt can get confusing rather quickly.

With no interconnection and no mandate to refer to what happened previously it just sounds hard to do a JL 2 that would be coherent. Not impossible but it seems like they are handicapping the universe not helping it out. :yeshrug:
