What if someone then wants to make an Aquaman movie featuring Amanda Waller are they allowed to just ignore the events of the previous Wonder Woman movie? Are they allowed to kill someone big and make them unavailable for future movies? Can they use a different actor for the same character? Can two characters who were friends in one movie be enemies in another with no explanation? How far doe this lack of a mandate go? Shyt can get confusing rather quickly.
No, they said they will have continuity just not make everything connected towards some over-arching storyline.
So if there is nothing in a previous Wonder Woman movie that requires being mentioned in an Aquaman movie then there is no reason to mention it.
So if Character A dies in a Wonder Woman movie then that character won't be showing up in Batman's movie.
If Chacter B and Character C hate one another's guts in a Superman movie then they will continue to hate one another's guts in the Flash movie if they appear in it.
Its really not that complex a concept.

With no interconnection and no mandate to refer to what happened previously it just sounds hard to do a JL 2 that would be coherent. Not impossible but it seems like they are handicapping the universe not helping it out.
The Justice League comic books used to almost never reference what was going on in the individual character's comic books and they told entertaining stories that weren't incoherent at all on a regular basis.
This isn't an attack against you or anything but I think the biggest point of confusion with this is that people are used to the way Marvel does their films and anyone not doing it "The Marvel Way" causes people to overthink things a bit too much.

So if Darkseid only briefly appears in JL or not at all no one has to make a movie with him in it despite Batman's vision/dream?
I just think with all the leeway shyt could go left in unexpected ways. :yeshrug:

Movies are different. If they fail to mention something relevant from a previous movie or make unexpected changes due to different artistic visions of directors people will complain or count it negatively against the story in the movie.

But that is where the concept of continuity comes in. As long as there is someone to make sure the continuity of the shared universe is intact then its not a big deal.

If the plan is to have a major event movie with Darkseid then he gets mentioned but if that isn't the plan and Darkseid appears in a Superman movie there is no reason why the Batman movie that follows has to have Darkseid in it.
If WB/DC decides the next Justice league movie will continue the Darkseid is coming stuff from BvS and JL then Darkseid will appear in just the Justice League movies and not in any of the solo films.

Some of y'all don't understand how comic books work. The mainline Batman series and alternate Batman titles along with Justice League are almost never connected week to week. They reference things that happen but they are usually not taking place in the same space and time unless it's a crossover event.

This is how DC is handling their universe and that was always the idea from Snyder

This shyt is stupid:russ:

Here's how it works: An Aquaman movie will be in the same universe as a Justice League movie but doesn't have to have signposts or arbitrary mentions of batman or gotham or wonder woman, etc to let you know they're all in the same world. The fact anyone misunderstands that basic concept and that Johns had to "clarify" on Twitter just makes me scratch my head and laugh. It's not rocket science.

Saying we are moving away from connecting the universe even tho it's still 100% connected doesn't count as providing 'clarity' IMO.

Snyder was preparing an overview storyline in BvS. But yeah they did always say they planned to give Directors license. I guess it's even more license now.
