@Malta @jjiscooler @dc007, all the travelers
Got back from Brazil this morning brehs. This is going to be long so bare with me, just trying to share as much of experience as possible. Most pics will be in next post if you dont want to read
Piece of advice, if you gonna go to Brazil do yourself the biggest favor and learn some damn Portuguese. I had studied for about 3-4 months prior to my trip and when I first got to the airport it was a challenge but the dope thing is the more I tried to use it (errors and all), the more confident and comfortable I got with it. Chopped it up on the bus from Sao Paulo to Dos Campos with a chick who was telling me they got streets named after MLK and Mandela. Getting around, ordering food, etc. can definitely be a challenge if you dont know the language. By mid-week hearing English was like music to the ears
This one brother who was Jamaican came up to us in a restaurant thinking we were West Indian, but thats just another thing with traveling is meeting folks from all diff places.
Building off my first point, Brazilians are probably some of the nicest people you'll meet. Everywhere I went folks were very helpful. Even riding the buses in Rio this older lady sitting up front went out of her way to make sure I was given my proper change. I should add buses were my preferred means of getting around tho some of the rides were loong, but cant beat $3 Reais
I quickly caught on to some of the more commonly used gestures , like the usage of thumbs up for everything. On one occasion I was trying to get directions, I even told the man Eu falo portuguese um pouqinho (I only speak a little portuguese) and he proceeded to rattle off the directions in rapid fire fashion followed by one of these
The food
My boy's girlfriend lives in Rio so she took us to this nice spot I forget what the dish is called (see below) Steak, fries, rice..not pictured is the black beans, some pico de gallo looking stuff it was enough to feed 2-3 grown men. I also went to a churrascaria one day for lunch, but you really cant go wrong eating anywhere I was all about trying different things. The fruit juices all taste so fresh
I noticed alot of fried foods
Hit up Copacabana and Ipanema beach..was looking like the nicki minaj anaconda video shoot, and thats all I'm going to say about that.
Most of my time was spent in Rio, beautiful city but so much poverty. I believe I overheard someone saying one favela housed 90,000 people (cant remember the name). All in all was a great experience, my only regret was not plugging in with some Afro-Brazilians before hand that could have given me an even more diverse trip. Dont get me wrong I got to see alot of really great stuff but we were getting recommendations for dinner/night time hang outs in some bourgeois areas with strong
vibes, just to be brief. Next time I go to brazil it will definitely have to be Salvador.
