The movie didn't constantly show them constantly getting beat, that's the difference. It was implied from the bruises and the doll collection, also how she was made to sit like a doll.
That's why it's not torture porn - it wasn't graphic like that. The most graphic part for me were the 2 cops who pulled over to rescue the girls out in the field.
Now that I think about it -- this movie was more like Texas Chainsaw Massacre strictly from a point of view from the victims, with a psychological spin :patrice:
That's why you didn't like it
:umad:
The two "bad guys" were basically Leatherface from TNG split out into two individual characters and without the chainsaw or skin wearing fixation.

Question for everyone: do you want your horror flick to be scary and fun or just scary? Or just fun?

Listening to this podcast where they’re doing a draft on the Jason and Freddy franchises and it’s interesting hearing different perspectives on why one is ranked over another. But one of the guests just said he doesn’t want his nightmare on elm st movies to be “fun,” he wants them to be primal and evoke a real sense of dread. Which is why he ranks nightmare 1 over nightmare 3.

So yeah what say you all?

I can go either way especially if the quality is there.
So for me I am just as happy with a movie like The Exorcist as I am with something like Nightmare on Elm Street 3.

Do you have a preference for specific franchises? Should nightmare lean more into horror comedy like the latter installments or stick to serious like the first?

i think for any true horror fan the more terrifying a film is the more "fun" it is and that's the closest you can get to objectifying the word "fun" within the genre

if i'm in a theater full of people jumping and screaming at shyt the whole time that's fun to me :pachaha: the movie is doing it's job at that point IMO

Nightmare is probably my favorite horror franchise but within that set of movies my favorites are the first one and Dream Warriors and Dream Warriors is where "Freddy the wisecracker" become solidified while the first movie was far more straight horror without the joke a minute Freddy.
Now if a well-made new version of Nightmare were to come out that was just straight scare the shyt out of you horror I would be all for it but I'd also be down for a new Nightmare that incorporated the humor aspect of Freddy into it too as long as it was good and not like that garbage 2010 movie.

I like scary. I don’t like the fun funny type of horror films. Haven’t seen one funny that I was into. Some of those zombie type funny movies were corny as hell to me. Train to busan to me doesn’t fall into the fun funny horror film though.

I’m really into some found footage or hand held type horror movies. The more realistic, the better for me.

I prefer scary, but 3 of my favorite horror movies are “horror comedies”.
