This was a decent movie- it wasn't your regular run of the mill type of horror movie and the plot twist was flawless with the execution.You can save your disappointment sir ...I liked it and I'm sticking to my decision...
Why I love this thread fam...a lot of different perspectives and we generally all watch the same flicks so you get to look at 'em from a few different angles just discussing the flicks. It makes some movies I wouldn't check back on worth rewatching and evaluating. The October movie list for everyone in the thread is absolute fire.

Word. This is all facts, it's really engaging. You get a whole new perspective on movies and the back stories/background info; I picked up on a lot of gems off this thread. Good to actually have other people to discuss in detail that have a real appreciation and knowledge for the genre. Other than people always reacting like horror are the taboo level of films - horror is more than, as my friends like to say- "murder movies"
This my favorite thread/subforum in the whole site- I just wish that I had more time to sit through and view movies in one setting or actually get out to see movies, like I used to so that I don't feel like I'm lagging behind or getting backlogged with my lists. But better late than never - the responsibilities of adulting.

Nahhhh.. it wasn't even that much murder in it to be torturous - this was all mental terror and manipulation. From the very start of the film - the movie was conditioning us to think this was a slasher/home invasion movie which this was far from. Hostel is torture porn - this was not. - The nerve to talk about disappointing.

From the very start of the film - the movie was conditioning us to think this was a slasher/home invasion movie which this was far from. The movie didn't constantly show them constantly getting beat, that's the difference. It was implied from the bruises and the doll collection, also how she was made to sit like a doll.
That's why it's not torture porn - it wasn't graphic like that. The most graphic part for me were the 2 cops who pulled over to rescue the girls out in the field.
Now that I think about it -- this movie was more like Texas Chainsaw Massacre strictly from a point of view from the victims, with a psychological spin

The Incident in a Ghostland convo has me cracking up fam. I get both of your takes too.
He's bugging. There were two 14-15 yr old girls (sisters) who they show with black eyes and bruises throughout the movie. But it's not like Hostel where they actually show the killer abusing them the whole time. There's another scene where the killer has a room full of dolls - in various states of abuse (heads ripped off, missing eyes, arms etc). He gets off on physically abusing the dolls - in this case, his crossdressing mother/father uses the two kidnapped girls as living dolls for him which he makes them pose as part of his doll collection. There's one scene where he uses a blow torch to burn the dolls hand off which implies that's what he plans to do in order to torture the girls. One of the sisters is a horror writer, she blanks out and starts hallucinating about stories in her head, there's a point in the movie where she has a conversation with Lovecraft. (Typing this out reads weird af, but it's the best that I can do to describe it). The movie is more complex than he makes it seem.
