classic
the way they set up the first creatur appearance with all the doors opening is wild
they set up something as routine as opening doors and tried to make it stressful as fukk .
I guess for the rime period , its about the best they could do with hte level of FX they could do, but they made the most of it.

my sci fi watches have been almost non existent this year.
i have got to get some back in my rotation

with that being said
i may watrch the Howling series or the phantasm series next.
Been eyeing Phantasm series as well. I am not big on Howling i may have to rewatch it but never got the hype. Heard good things about some sequels

When I was doing series rewatches, I got through a bunch of marathons...Friday the 13th, Halloween, Wrong Turn, TCM, etc....the two series that I couldn't get through were Hellraiser and Phantasm. Hell Raiser because the quality crashes so badly, but Phantasm I just couldn't get into.

The first one is certified, but I had trouble getting into the rest.

J/K-Horror watchfest continues for me. My weekend watches were:

The vaunted classic - Pulse
Two groups of people discover evidence that suggests spirits may be trying to invade the human world through the Internet.

I'm a fan of Pulse, but I also find that most J-Horror fans like it more than I do. It has some excellent scares scattered throughout, but the philosophical stuff leans overdramatic for me, and I feel like the shifts in the world are too abrupt. I know people that LOVE this plot, and I just think it's a cool premise with flawed execution.

That said, Pulse stands out because of those scattered scares I mentioned. It has, bar none, some of the best scares of the era. I don't think The Ring or The Grudge or One Missed Call or any of the other J-Horrors that got bought up by American studios have a moment as good as the first trip into a forbidden room.

Next up a new joint - Sleep
A young, expectant wife must figure out how to stop her husband's nightmarish sleepwalking habits before he harms himself or his family.

This is one hell of a promising debut effort from the writer/director. Sleep has a slow-burn feel that I don't think we get enough of these days. It actually gave me vibes from two POLAR OPPOSITE horrors. But I'll name-drop those in a minute.

Sleep unfolds with each nightly experience. The couple goes to sleep, the husband starts sleepwalking, and his bizarre behavior escalates with each night. Between those moments, we get the couple's reactions during the daytime and their attempts to address it. They go to doctors, safety-proof the house, and consult mediums out of desperation. Meanwhile, each night, the husband's actions become more threatening.

It works really well! This dude starts snoring, and it has the same ominous vibe as when Paranormal Activity's footage would start fast-forwarding. You KNOW that trouble is coming and that it will be worse than the last. Meanwhile, the clash of religion vs science for answers gave me a bit of the old Exorcist vibes. So, this is a fascinating combination, especially since it has a K-horror twist.

This joint does have some flaws. Characters act foolishly at times, and people sleep through some madness. But it never disrupts enough to reduce the tension. I really enjoyed it!

Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies

You have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy this. It’s bad, but if you’re a wrestling fan you can tolerate it. Shane Douglas is supposed to be the main Character and it’s funny on so many levels. Dude is a complete a$$hole. Kurt Angle putting zombies in an ankle lock. Hilarious. :mjlol:

It's got a few iconic moments. But it's one great moment then a LOT of melodrama. Then another moment and another long spell of melodrama. I think it gets most of its props because it predates all the other famous J-Horrors.

I’m about 100 pages into Elvira autobiography. She’s had an insane life before she became a horror icon :dahell:. The 50s, 60s, 70s were different man.

One example I got is when she went on a family vacation to Las Vegas. She convinced her parents to take her to a showgirl performance. Some of the ladies noticed her and brought her back to the boss where he told her he wanted Elvira to become a showgirl— she was underage and the owner didn’t give a fukk and after talking to her parents, with her constant whining they accepted. So she was 17 living in Las Vegas being a showgirl for years.

Being a showgirl had some rules and if were broken you could lose your job. One of them being was no talking to black people. Her friend on the job got fired because she was seen out on a date with Wilt Chamberlin.

I’m bringing this up to highlight a moment a few stories later.

Elvira quit being a showgirl then decided to travel to Rome. She ended up dating this Italian dude. This guy would wake up at 3am every morning and would vanish for hours. One night he did it she finally decided to look for answers. In a wardrobe she found a bunch of women clothing and items. When she confronted him about this he beat her severely to the point she passed out. :why:

When woke up she couldn’t escape. Dude locked her in that place and never returned. She was there for a week limited food. She kept screaming for help but no one could hear her. Eventually one of her bf friends let her out and she ran as fast as she could.

The place she was staying in kicked her out because she wasn’t there to pay her rent. She ended up contacting this girl she met in Rome, and she offered Elvira to stay with her.

Tell me why this chick was living in an abandoned house with no power or food :why:. She made Elvira pretend to be prostitues With her where they made dudes pay half the money up front and they would run away. One random morning she woke up to that chick gone and she stole all of Elvira shyt besides her passport :hubie:

So she’s in rome homeless and lost. Somehow she runs into her friend she used to work with as a showgirl. Her friend left her bf because he beat the fukk out of her tooo.

They’re trying hard to survive in rome. One day they decide to go to this event ….. WHERE THEY RUN INTO WILT CHAMBERLIN.:dead:

Wilt gives them both 100 dollars…. Which is a fukking a lot during this time…. Her friend goes back to her abusive bf and Elvira leaves rome

I would say this is all cap but in the book she has a photo of her and wilt hanging out in a drive way :ehh:

there is a thread in jbo where wilt forced her to give him a blowjob, that's all she would admit to, but she got pictures of this dude in her memoirs....

Yup, that’s why I probably don’t think much of it.

Is this mentioned in the book? If so I haven’t gotten to that part yet.

She spent her teens years being a “groupie” where she would go to all the biggest band shows… every story would end up the same… she’d be at the after party where one of the band members would take her to a separate room they’d make out and she would eventually be kicked out because she wouldn’t go all the way.

The first celeb she got with was some dude name Tom Jones and she had to get stitches on her coochie after because he was packing like that lmao :dame: she found Tom jones a few days later in his room making out with his band members called the blossoms.

I looked them both up and it had me floored it was a bunch of black chicks and a white dude :dahell:

Lmaooo I’m deep into the book and she still hasn’t become Elvira yet

she doesn't become Elvira till the 80s, she tried to be an actress str8 first, on that Shannon Tweed tip. (Shannon Tweed was a str8 up actress in the 80s, when it didn't work, in the 90s, she started taking off her clothes and humpin)

It's been a long time since I talked about movies that I've watched. I watched DBS Super Hero and had the finish Dragon Ball from the King Piccolo Saga. I ran the series all the way to the end of the Namek Saga on DBZ :dead: DBZ Saiyan Saga is actually ridiculous. I haven't seen it in a long time and the stuff they do with the camera on this 35 weekly show is insane.

I finished Doc of Chucky and liked it for the most part. It was fun seeing everyone and hearing them talk about their experience in the series. The biggest takeaway for me is that Don Mancini owned up for the failures in the franchise. I've heard him talk on horror docs/shows before but never knew how much he stanned Brian De Palma. Funny enough I watched 2 of his movies before I watched the Chucky Doc.

Brian De Palma's Raising Cain 1992
Raising_cain.jpg

Honestly this is probably the worst De Palma movie I've watched so far. It's definitely trashy, but I think that was on purpose. All the twists make it fun just don't take it too seriously. Its like Wild Things without the sex, but with mental health issues.

I grew up watching 3rd Rock From the Sun and Harry and the Hendersons so I only knew John Lithgow as a comedic father before Dexter. So seeing him as The Trinity Killer was a big surprise. It's much less a surprise after watching him in De Palma movies and it was a good casting choice. John Lithgow is crazy in every single one of them.

Brian De Palma's Sisters 1972
Sisters_%281973%29.jpg

When PAWGing goes wrong.

This movie was a lot of fun. Its has a fun Hitchcock/Giallo esque mystery. Margot Kidder was again good in this movie. IMO she's a underrated Scream Queen nowadays, I never hear her mentioned. It's probably because all of her movies are older idk. I'd recommend this if you like Hitchcock/Giallo joints. I like those type of movies so this was a banger to me.

I liked that they gave a breh a racist ass prize after he was on a TV show. They never outright say anything but his reactions to the absurdity of the restaurant comes through. They got brehs shirtless in vests, bowties, and grass skirts:snoop: I guess that's how other people feel eating at some of the racist restaurants like the Hawaiian/etc joints that were popular back in the days.

Species 1995
Species_1995_poster.jpg

I watched Cat People and Lifeforce before specifically so I can watch this. I remember only trying to watch this as a kid for boobs. The movie actually takes itself pretty seriously. Probably too serious IDK. Forest Whitaker was really good in this movie either way. I just wasn't interested that much in the fish out of water plotline with Sid. I know that it's supposed to show how our society views women or beautiful woman in particular but :yeshrug: wasn't that interesting to me.

I do miss sexy woman killer horror movies. They don't really make them anymore. The practical effects are good.

The cast for this movie is stacked as hell. I mean look at the cast

Michelle Williams - even as a kid shes was good. Maybe why she was in the Venom movies.
Ben Kingsley - wasn't that good in this imo.
Forest Whitaker - is the movies mvp.
Michael Madsen
Alfred Molina - wasn't given much to do.

The movie gets called an Alien rip off. I guess after I thought about it a little bit, but the creature design reminded me of some H.R. Giger artwork I saw. Specifically the one that below. Not suprised that he actually worked on this movie aswell. I saw this blog before after reading that he did the work for Alien and some of the Cenobite designs from Hellraiser franchise may be inspired by his work Alien Explorations
3064853-slide-27-the-cuddly-cuddly-world-of-hr-giger.jpg

Species II 1998
Species2.jpg

This one isn't as good as the first, but it's more entertaining imo. The practical effects are even better. There's a lot more jokes. Even the cgi is kinda good. You do get to see more of the Alien forms. At the end, the movie kinda goes Hentai.

Mykelti Williamson's(Bubba, Forrest Gump) character had me dying. There's no way this dude would be sent to outer space by NASA. Halfway through the movie I was calling him Astro Unc. I am very glad he's there because Michael Madsen is much less interested this time around.

Should I continue the Species Franchise? There's 2 more of these...

Body Snatchers 1993
Body_snatchers_1993.jpg

I've only seen the 1978 version before. I watched this after the Chucky Doc because I saw Meg Tilly was in it. She was alright. Kyle from Child's Play 2 is also in the movie which was a surprise. Its not better than 78 but still pretty fun. IMO it'd be better if they didn't overuse Donald Sutherland's pose and scream from the end of the 78 version. I also liked the military base setting in the movie. That's underused in horror movies. Only other one I can kinda think of is
Child's Play 3.

I need to watch the OG and theres like 2 more versions. I like the idea of aliens taking over this way, but I think I need to space out the movies.

Are there anymore Abel Ferrara movies I should watch? I've seen Ms. 45 and plan on watching King of New York with Christopher Walken, and probably Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel.

Brian De Palma's Obsession 1976
Obsesson_1976_poster.jpg

This was one of the Brian De Palma movie I watched after the Chucky Doc. Its ok. Vertigo is one of my favorite movies. The ending is very similar to a south korean movie that is one of favorites as well.
I'm talking about Oldboy. That was a pretty crazy twist for 25 years earlier.

The movie only really suffers because the lead actor isn't very interesting.

Popcorn 1991
Popcorn_FilmPoster.jpeg

This was pretty fun. The main villain was a nut:russ: If you're a fan of William Castle and Roger Corman horror movies there's probably more here for you. I should watch some of them in the near future.

Dee Wallace was in this for a bit. I only just now notice they call her ET's mom in Scream:mjlol:

George A. Romero and Dario Argento's Two Evil Eyes 1990
2evilslip_800x+%25281%2529.jpg

This is kind of like two big budget Tales from the Crypt episodes. I enjoyed Dario Argento's segment a lot. That shyt was pretty crazy. The reveal the end was phenomenal.

Romero's segment is alright and plays more like a soap opera. I thought it was funny that they were going to have a sex scene and dude reached straight for Adrienne Barbeau's titty. I don't blame him:manny:

Harvey Keitel was good in the second segment. After watching his movies until Trauma I can tell Argento's really hates cats.

John Amos plays a detective suffering from allergies in the second segment. As always he's hilarious. I'll revisit this one again.

Eyes of a Stranger 1981
Eyes-of-a-Stranger-poster.jpg

I watched the trailer for this thinking it'd be like Black Christmas. It really isn't. It's more of a mystery like Hitchcock or a Giallo. It's not a whodunit mystery, but more of a how are they going to get caught mystery like Columbo.

The movie is well made and pretty good. There's one good practical effect showcase here. All the actors did well, its alright. It isn't a over the top or graphic, except one scene, 80s slasher like I thought.

Jennifer Jason Leigh is in her first movie role in this. She's still good though. I've watched her in stuff over the last year or two on accident. I'm talking about Annihilation, Possessor, Flesh+Blood(watched this because of Paul Verhoeven and Rutger Hauer), the last season of Fargo, The Hitcher(I'm gonna rewatch this shyts crazy), Existenz(cause I heard it's like Cronenberg's other movie Videodrome), Stephen King's Dolores Claiborne(after Gerald's Game). I plan on watching some of her other horror movies soon like Sister Sister, Single White Female, and Heart of Midnight.

Brian De Palma's The Fury 1978
The_Fury_%281978%29.jpg

I fukk with this. It's like a R-Rated X-Men movie. There's also some spy espionage stuff in here too. The practical effects were great. The end kill scene:whoo:

I think I like this more than Scanners. I need to rewatch that one and maybe the sequels because I want to watch more movies like this one. I need more R-Rated movies where the protagonist has powers like an X-Man.
