Quick questions for the Horror-Thread posters:
- Do you consume horror content on youtube?
- If Yes, what kind of content? (ie: reviews, recaps, previews, news, scary stories, true crime, etc)
- Is there any content-type you wish there was more of?

I've been juggling ideas for a horror-focused youtube page, but it seems like a very small amount of creators get a lot of views and everyone else struggles to breakout. I have an idea but I think it's probably too niche to get too big, so I'm wondering what everyone else is consuming that engages with horror like we do in this thread.

My idea would be a channel that recaps foreign horror movies, since so many people don't want to read subtitles. But I'd aim for obscure stuff (like Bluebeard and Record of Sweet Murder) as much or more than the popular foreign horror (like When Evil Lurks or Train to Busan).
Nothing on YouTube for me. Maybe the occasional horror short every now and then. Some of these reviewers be pushing me away, lol.

The Big Picture is the only movie-related podcast I check for these days and they usually do movie drafts for any given year of cinema. Their drafts consist of all genres and not just horror though. Most of the titles they bring up are well-known, but it’s cool stumbling upon those unsung gems. It would be cool if someone could do that for horror in general, and narrow it down by decade or even year. Perhaps someone already has and I’m just not aware.

Caught ‘Heretic’ on Tuesday. Would classify it as a thriller more than a horror. Started off hot and slowly loses steam throughout, I thought. Hugh was cookin’ though. Not the biggest fan of his, but he clearly had a lot of fun shooting it. Performance had me feeling knots in my stomach one moment and crackin’ up the next.

Could see why A24 picked it up. At the same time, there were many points where I felt like I was being lectured to despite the film not being as clever as it thinks it is. The set-up had me fully engaged though that I wouldn’t mind paying the flick another watch someday off that alone. It really did a fine job ratcheting up the tension even if it was very dialogue based.

Not sure if this counts but I'm having a lot of fun catching up on 'Stranger Things'.. The 80's references are fine and all and I like the vibes but that's not why I'm enjoying the show.

I love how they incorporate Dungeons and Dragons into so much of the narrative. I love the Spielberg "Coming of Age" elements combined with Sci-Fi/Horror, that's ALWAYS works... The character building is great too as are most of the actors/actresses, I think they nailed the casting..

But what I love the most? The show doesn't shy away from grief and heartbreak. The show isn't afraid to be mature or up the violence or the grittiness when it's warranted.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be this entertaining. I loved the first season when I watched it back in the day but then I got a little disinterested midway through season 2.

I'm glad I jumped back into this for real

The mutilator (1984)

fun, gory, slasher from the height of the slasher craze.
It's just ......so.......80's...
i liked it more than i thought i would

gorier than i expected

does it add anything to the genre ? No.
but people die in grisly ways and that was basically all i was looking for.

they made a sequel in 2023 ,but i haven't clocked it yet

Shudder got a live action Tomie?!
They just stocked up on J-Horror. I'm in heaven. They have a documentary that looks REALLY good about the J-Horror rise (called J-horror virus), and a handful of new movies. One I haven't seen but am looking forward to peeping is the Carved: Slit-mouthed Woman.

Also, the new Creep movie is out...I wasn't big on the first two, but I'll probably give it a shot.

only a few are decent though
i believe i have seen 4 or 5 of them.
"those sites" are your friends when it comes to niche horror

Thanks for this. Might have to check them all out. I’m a big Junji Ito fan. Recently bought Tomie book with another Junji Ito book. 60 dollars well spent.

Bro I’m excited to check these all out. Shoutout to Shudder for feeding its audience.

This is exactly how I felt. Longlegs was pretty good, but not worth all that hype. It wasn't as good as the movies that inspired it.
