YesQuick questions for the Horror-Thread posters:
- Do you consume horror content on youtube?
Reactions, reviews, recaps, podcasts, trailers, summarizations.- If Yes, what kind of content? (ie: reviews, recaps, previews, news, scary stories, true crime, etc)
Reactions are the most low effort videos you could do. Idk if you need a female co host or not to make any real money from it.
- Is there any content-type you wish there was more of?
I've been juggling ideas for a horror-focused youtube page, but it seems like a very small amount of creators get a lot of views and everyone else struggles to breakout. I have an idea but I think it's probably too niche to get too big, so I'm wondering what everyone else is consuming that engages with horror like we do in this thread.
My idea would be a channel that recaps foreign horror movies, since so many people don't want to read subtitles. But I'd aim for obscure stuff (like Bluebeard and Record of Sweet Murder) as much or more than the popular foreign horror (like When Evil Lurks or Train to Busan).
I agree. Even some horror celebs have a hard time getting views. Not to discourage you. Even the good ones like, I think you told me about her,
Haunted Hippie who does deep dives on movies doesn't get the views for the work she puts into it.
Depends on what you're trying to do. I pay attention to Dead Meat and his older and foreign movies struggle to get the views as the newer movies or movies that get popular again with Gen Z. His videos now are too long imo and I'm not sure if the non horror heads care about the BTS stuff. He's supposed to fall back next year. There's already a lot of copycats, but none of them are good. It also seems like YouTube has made it harder with their newest restrictions and you'd have to fight copyrights.
I think JoBlo makes some ok stuff that's popular. Like you talked about here how Cure inspired Longlegs. I can be wrong, but if you made videos that summarized foreign horror and related it to popular stuff right now it may work. Like right now The Substance, Longleg, Terrifier 3, are popular and if you made a video summarizing foreign movies that inspired these current popular films you could get a lot of views. Also doing something like, "Top 5 2024"; French, Japanese, Australian, Italian, or South Korean horror movies for the year(also can do decades or w/e) could work as well.
Even if you don't want to, make a TikTok when you launch your channel.
