Quick questions for the Horror-Thread posters:
- Do you consume horror content on youtube?
Yes

- If Yes, what kind of content? (ie: reviews, recaps, previews, news, scary stories, true crime, etc)
Reactions, reviews, recaps, podcasts, trailers, summarizations.

Reactions are the most low effort videos you could do. Idk if you need a female co host or not to make any real money from it.

- Is there any content-type you wish there was more of?

I've been juggling ideas for a horror-focused youtube page, but it seems like a very small amount of creators get a lot of views and everyone else struggles to breakout. I have an idea but I think it's probably too niche to get too big, so I'm wondering what everyone else is consuming that engages with horror like we do in this thread.

My idea would be a channel that recaps foreign horror movies, since so many people don't want to read subtitles. But I'd aim for obscure stuff (like Bluebeard and Record of Sweet Murder) as much or more than the popular foreign horror (like When Evil Lurks or Train to Busan).

I agree. Even some horror celebs have a hard time getting views. Not to discourage you. Even the good ones like, I think you told me about her,
Haunted Hippie who does deep dives on movies doesn't get the views for the work she puts into it.

Depends on what you're trying to do. I pay attention to Dead Meat and his older and foreign movies struggle to get the views as the newer movies or movies that get popular again with Gen Z. His videos now are too long imo and I'm not sure if the non horror heads care about the BTS stuff. He's supposed to fall back next year. There's already a lot of copycats, but none of them are good. It also seems like YouTube has made it harder with their newest restrictions and you'd have to fight copyrights.

I think JoBlo makes some ok stuff that's popular. Like you talked about here how Cure inspired Longlegs. I can be wrong, but if you made videos that summarized foreign horror and related it to popular stuff right now it may work. Like right now The Substance, Longleg, Terrifier 3, are popular and if you made a video summarizing foreign movies that inspired these current popular films you could get a lot of views. Also doing something like, "Top 5 2024"; French, Japanese, Australian, Italian, or South Korean horror movies for the year(also can do decades or w/e) could work as well.

Even if you don't want to, make a TikTok when you launch your channel.

@Sad Bunny I liked Influencer when I had Shudder.

I actually watch Low busdget horror on youtube -can't remember the channel names off hand

I subscribed to one reviewer - He kept coming up in my feed, so i just did it out of spite
Ghost pirate entertainment is the channel name - dude is ....different , but has decent horror takes on new stuff - I think he has about 50k Susbscribers.
Edit - Just dropped a new vid today

My recommendations are full of new horror trailers.

I usually just check these pages as well

Put on American Werewolf in London

Never realized how crazy David dreams are lmao

And buddy at the pub was so mad he missed the dart board :laff:

The Nazi Werewolf scene was crazy.

His friend that dies and visits him is my favorite part. I even like Pascow from Pet Semetary who's very similar.

I listen to podcasts and it’s mainly retrospectives; talking about all of the history and whatnot, sometimes longer than the 90 minute movie lol. I think your best bet is covering recent horror even non horror fans might tap in just because a certain horror movie might catch traction and get popular, then you can go back and cover older stuff. Just my opinion

What’s cool about Jack coming back is how each time his body looks worse because it’s rotting.

Amazon has this listed as a comedy horror and I never thought it to be one. After watching it this time I see all the humor in it.

Crazy how I’ve never caught on even though I’ve seen this a 100 times

This is what I meant if you're trying to get paid.

For example Nosferatu is coming out on Christmas and I'd do 4 videos for it.

1. Who is Nosferatu.

Explain history and significance. Recommend Nosferatu/Dracula movies to watch.

Break up these segments into TikTok videos

2. Review Nosferatu without spoilers.

This is the most reduant video and not really needed.

3. Nosferatu Explained.

Explain stuff in the movie no matter how rudimentary. You can summarize movie here.

4. Movies like Nosferatu

Again you don't need this one. Here I'd recommend other vampire/Nosferatu movies. You'd be best here to cover the foreign films that deal with same themes. Know this information would separate you from other similar content creators.

The horror shorts from Alter and Screamfest are endless. With youtube premium and horror shorts, you'll never have a lack of content to watch. Plus there are some youtubers that have uploaded full movies of classic films that aren't really streaming in many places.
