Here's a weird Found Footage Korean and Japanese combo-horror that I'd recommend because of how insane it is.
Record of Sweet Murder It's from Koji Shiraishi, who you might know for Noroi and
A South Korean journalist and a Japanese cameraman in South Korea are invited to an abandoned apartment one day.
Here's the trailer if you need convincing
Simple enough premise, but it's got a LOT going on behind it. A journalist gets contacted by a childhood friend who escaped a mental institute and is accused of going on a murder spree. He tells her she MUST bring a Japanese Cameraman. They lost a third friend of theirs in an accident and this dude has been "hearing God's voice" ever since.
So, the cameraman is not allowed to turn off the camera or switch reels, and our crazed killer is going to spend the run time trying to convince us that he really is hearing God's voice. But that comes with some serious trigger-warnings, like Takashi Miike levels of depravity are about to go down...all in a one-take format.
But the disturbing behavior feeds the mystery. You're asking yourself, "how far will this psycopath go?" and "is he actually onto something?" throughout most of the movie. I'll admit, one point went too far into crazyville and just came across goofy. But for the most part, it's a tense situation that's more immersive because there are seemingly no cuts.
And the payoff is absolute chaotic glory. For any times I rolled my eyes or wondered if all this crap was worth the journey; the end was a violent acid trip that felt earned.
Quick trigger warnings: Kids are harmed, people die, there's random sexual depravity (not always consenting), and a bunch of violence.
It's not gonna be for everyone, but if you dug stuff like Ichi the Killer, this is a wild one.
