Another one I watched recently. Let's travel back to 1983 for 'Pieces.' There's nothing new here, it's a basic slasher of the era. Someone is terrorizing a Boston campus killing people off with a chainsaw. It's like they took different elements from all the good slashers and plugged it into this formula. The acting is pretty bad and the story is paper thin but if you just wanna watch a random slasher go for it. The ending is a real what the fukk lol

A late 60s Spanish horror featuring Boris Karloff in one of his last films. It has a poor rating on IMDb but my curiosity got the better of me. I thought it was a decent take of the sculptor trope that was used during the time. The editing is choppy, but it doesn’t make the simple story hard to follow.

Put on a Hammer horror to continue my old school horror watch. This is okay. Not the top quality Hammer film I’ve usually seen. The legend Peter Cushing is in it, so it was nice to see him in it.

Did a back to back a day after watching the OG. The first one is in my top 10-15 horror film. I don’t know if I noticed in the first watch, but the reviews on here made me notice how much of an a$$hole Ethan’s character is. His daughter brings him coffee to his room and doesn’t even have a small chat with her. Just grabs the coffee and closes the door. :skip: She obviously didn’t forget about that moment. :demonic: :merchant:

Maybe because I like part 1, but I enjoyed part 2. It gets right into the supernatural aspect of it early with the ghost kids. The problem with the first one is it took quite a while before the ghost kids appeared, and I could see how that might have the audience feel some kind of way.

I don’t have a problem with the first film. I read some issues you guys had with it, but I like the blend of mystery/supernatural. I think if the script was tighter with the supernatural stuff early on, I don’t think there would be much complaints.

Pieces isn’t a basic slasher. It’s bloody and violent. It’s one of those 80s slashers that stays with me. Can’t say the same for other popular lowkey 80s slashers like Mutilator and Stage Fright. :ld:

Watched Texas chainsaw massacre 2. Second watch in many years…wow what a blast. Prefer it to OG

I should rewatch this movie. I haven't seen it since I was a kid. We had it on VHS and I haven't watched any VHS tapes since we switched to DVD. I also found a bunch of movies I never rewatched or heard anyone talk about online. I also got some recorded stuff from HBO or cable TV.

"you c00nshyt, you fudgepacker" :mjlol:

I wouldn't say it is as good as the first (the OD screaming is more annoying in this one) but the set design was very dope

and yes, Stretch can get it

been watching the Coffin Joe movies from Brazil for the first time

At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964)
This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse (1967)
Awakening of the Beast (1970)

Not bad, I quite liked This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse. One of the most inspired depictions of Hell I've seen in a piece of media. Coffin Joe was SUPER hard on hoes :picard:

I heard Coffin Joe was an inspiration for Freddy Kreuger

I was thinking of blind buying the blu set over a year ago, but didn’t. Seems interesting.

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 22 - J.D.'s Revenge

J.D.'s a straight up menace! This is blaxploitation horror to the max, J.D. popping out the switchblade on a man who caught his wife cheating has been a meme for years. Lou Gossett Jr shows up and plays the hell out of his part, and the movie just oozes that mid-70's swag. We end up with one of the most unique possession movies of all time, and I'm once again asking for the studios that spend millions remaking and requeling the same handful of Horror Movies to expand to stuff like this...just keep Lee Daniels away.
Tell me the underrated Glynn Turman transformation into JD demonic descent doesn't rival Nicholson's Jack spiral in the Shining:wow::banderas::damn::lawd:

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 27 - Choose Your Own - Session 9
Tensions rise within an asbestos cleaning crew as they work in an abandoned mental hospital with a horrific past that seems to be coming back.

I've been kinda obsessed with Session 9 since I first saw it. It genuinely startled me and stuck with me on first watch, and it still has moments that stick out to me.

The magic in Session 9 is how the abandoned asylum feels like its own character, messing with the workers without ever doing anything as outwardly haunted as, say, The Shining's residence. The things left behind by the former patients seem to leak into the psyche of some characters and drive their actions.

Beyond that, the performances are all great. The bits of twist hit heavily, and I wouldn't be shocked to hear that the moments where a character listens to the old sessions influenced how Sinister played its scenes out. Hell, the big chaotic turn coincides with the final session just like Ethan Hawke watching the extended cuts.

Session 9 is a contender for the top 10 favorite horror movies of all time. For me, it's easily in the top 20.

The List:
1. Triangle (Prime)
2. The Loved Ones (Paramount+)
3. Salem's Lot 2024 (Max)
4. Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (Tubi)
5. VHS Beyond (Shudder)
6. *Choose your own* - Haunt (2019)
7. Don't Go in the House (Tubi, Youtube)
8. Cure (Internet Archive)
9. Masque of the Red Death(Pluto/Apple TV+)
10. The Eyes of My Mother (Max)
11. Henry Portait of a Serial Killer (Peacock)
12. Curse of Chucky (Netflix)
13. *Choose your own* - New Religion (Screambox)
14. Junk (2000) (Youtube)
15. Detention (2011) (Tubi)
16. Sleepaway Camp (Peacock)
17. The Skeleton Key(Peacock/Apple TV+)
18. The Witch (Max)
19. Brain Damage 1988 (Tubi)
20. *Choose your own* Thesis 1996
21. Audition (Tubi)
22. J. D.'s Revenge(Tubi/Brown Sugar/Prime)
23. Dead Silence (Tubi)
24. Sinister (Max)

28. 28 Days Later

Damned good movie,
one of the Kickstarters of the fast zombie genre
( nighmare City and return of the living dead would like to jump in the chat.)
It works because there is not the typical sense of dread you get with a regular zombie movie,
its more like a frenetic, fast paced, panic through the entire film.
they do make the usual bad decisions in zombie flick ( technically they are not zombies, just infected)
but it made sense in this movie sence the outbreak just started
Dr who did a great job with the Apocalypse now crazy leader twist
In the end, its almost like Jim was infected the way he was dispatching people and how it was filmed.

On to the OG 70's Black Christmas

caught this over the weekend as well

Not as gruesome as typical Aussie movies, but has some decent gore FX

its basically a 2024 syfy flick with decent actors and a serviceable plot

defeinitely a time waster if you have nothing else in the queue

I believe is also called The Red as well

I watched 28 Days Later before the football game.

This is the first time I rewatched it since early 2000s. I didn't like the movie when it first came out. Now I think it's really good. Jim's journey throughout the film is great. Most Zombie movies have people as the real horror. This movie has the best a$$holes in a zombie movie. I imagine all the people that used to ask me about Zombie Apocalypse BS would be like the army guys in this movie.

Other movies I watched that since last monday not on the list are:

Basket Case 1982

ciyzEBzJ1TnafkgGXr6DqEVh1wk.jpg

I really enjoyed Brain Damage and wanted to watch another Frank Henenlotter movie, I watched Frankenhooker for the first time earlier this year. This was more like an indie romance movie and less crazy as his other movies. I think he makes better Troma like movies if that makes sense. His movies in NYC or I assume Jersey City are great to see the how unglamorous those cities were in the 80s/90s like the first TMNT movie.

He should sue James Wan over Malignant:mjlol:

Basket Case 2 1990

This one was more insane and funny. Not sure which one I like best.

When Belial was clapping cheeks or more properly a mound of flesh I was:dead:

Night of the Living Dead Remake 1990
Notld1990.jpg

First time rewatching this since like 2005. The Barbara character is much better in this movie. It's unfortunate Tony Todd is so great at Candyman that people are afraid of him and he really hasn't had a chance outside the horror genre or voice over work.

Audition

I forgot to talk about this one. I don't think its a romcom at the beginning more like something like The Notebook. 2nd half is great and cmon it has to be the torture porn movie that inspired the movies in Hollywood during the early 2000s.

Bones
Bones_movie_poster.jpg

I watched this because of JD's Revenge and I could already see that it was an inspiration. The practical effects were good. There was a Frank being reborn from Hellraiser in this movie.

The bad thing in this movie is that they have a fresh Snoop Dogg as the main villain. It's hard to see him as a supernatural slasher when hes the most charismatic rapper of all time.

Bianca Lawson is a vampire for real. I forgot Katharine Isabelle was in this movie.

The Howling 1981
The_Howling_%281981_film%29_poster.jpg

I watched this for the first time after I rewatched The Burbs. This is the only horror movie from Joe Dante that I haven't watched before. I enjoyed the story and of course dikk Miller as his character. I think American Werewolf in London has higher highs but this movie held my interest the whole way through much better.

Should I dare watch The Howling sequels? Sounds like the franchise went downhill hard like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Hellraiser. Also I like Scott Derrickson's(Sinister director) Hellraiser Inferno sue me:yeshrug:
