Finished the Wishmaster films. First 2 were the better of the 4. I liked the dude who did the first 2, but part 3 was meh. The one who played WM in 4 was better, but the first guy was fukkin funny and played it so devilishly. The gore and kills were weak in 3 and 4, but 4 was a little better.
Wishmaster 2 is the one in the prison, right? That one's got the best kills to me. I don't even count 3 and 4 since they lost that main dude. He had that franchise on his back.

Great analysis. I was having a hard time figuring out why , even though I enjoyed the watch, it was a little underwhelming.
Underwhelmed is a perfect way to explain my feelings. It's artful as hell, but there was definitely something missing. I heard Eggers has an extended cut, and as much I felt the movie was slow, I'm hoping that version will fill in some of the blanks for me.

Watched some underrated classics this week:

What Lies Beneath
Stir Of Echoes
Frailty
Frailty and Stir of Echoes are two of my favorites. Especially Stir of Echoes, but the twist in Frailty was golden (also it's crazy how good the cast is in retrospect).

I was super hype when David Koepp and Kevin Bacon teamed back up for another horror movie "You Should Have Left." It wound up being a disappointment, unfortunately. I guess it wasn't fair to expect another Stir of Echoes, an all-timer of a ghost story in my book.

I almost forgot they made a followup. Worth checking out at least?

@RGM
watched the subspecies series
6 films - one is a spinoff

Tubi Interview with the Vampire
Wish.com Nosferatu

this series has the advantage of having the same writer and director for every film
Its a Full Moon production series so you already know the production is a little Dollar Tree(ish),
but that just adds to the charm, and they were all filmed in Romania , with the exception of the last which was made in Serbia

Subspecies (1991)

Basically, Ugly gang Vampire lord Radu Vladislas, ( with Jason Voorhees regeneration powers) his dad was a vampire king and his mother was a Witch queen, had this OP tool called the bloodstone, which is imbued with the blood of saints that never runs out and makes them more powerful.
He has a handsome gang half brother who opposes him and 3 pawgs show up to research Romanian folklore, fukkery ensues
His dad was played by Angus Scrimm ( for about 5 minutes) and the actual subspecies are in the movie about 8 minutes.
decent setup flick , I loved how the vampires use shadows instead of turning into bats to travel. nikkas could teleport like Jason

Decent world building flick

subspecies 2 Bloodstone (1993)

Radu regenerates, they get rid of a lot of people - I think they thought there would not be a sequel and did not come back
so Radu becomes the focus of the series in this one , and they introduce his actively decomposing mother.
Also Radu starts Pawg chasing in this one. interesting that the vampires actively lie in a death state when they rest in the daytime.

Subspecies 3 Bloodlust (1994)

Filmed back to back with 2 - all the same actors appear .

Radu regenerates again - starts trying spout pinhead quotables.
the pawging continues
they add to the lore
probably the best of the series.
decent fx

they fukk your boy Radu up in the end, though

Vampire journals (1997) the spinoff

Tubi Interview with the vampire, i mentioned earlier
another magical weapon is introduced
new vampires are introduced
One is a fledgeling of Radu so that's the only connection.

Subspecies 4 Bloodstorm (1998)

Its a direct follow up to part 3 , but has a few of the vampires from the spinoff in it
they kill 2 of the main character off offscreen , but the pawg stays..
the subspecies show up for 2 minutes
the bloodstone must be vampire crack because there is a vampire that has
used science to discover a way to walk in the sun and they are all like fukk alladat , where is that bloodstone nikka
when Radu finds his first fledgeling and tells him to "run me your shyt , nikka" is funny as hell

They Fukk your boy Radu up again. if he wasn't to busy chasing that Pawg he could be running shyt.

Subspecies 5 Blood Rise (2023)

Prequel
Explains a lot of stuff
the pawg chasing , hatred of his half brother, why he is uglygang
nikka that plays Radu is so old now , he looks like he could play him without makeup :russ:
the only disappointment, is the budget is higher so it looks to crisp, where the low budget feel of the others add to the grunge feel of the series.

Overall
its a decent series worth a watch if you like vampire flicks
decent gore fx when they do kill but its more story driven than i thought it would be
