25. World War Z (Paramount Plus)

Ahh.... the "Michael Bay" of Zombie flicks

but seriously, one of the best big Budget action Horror flicks out there
some of the characters just make the most questionable choices though
the only thing i did not like is that i never felt any sense of fear for Pitt's character status the entire movie
and felt every side character that was introduced conveniently to move the story along or just die

they should have kiled pitt or one of his family members for shock value.

A little cross posting here...

We just got back from 'Smile 2' and once again.. I really like this series. Naomi Scott was fantastic in her role and she looked gorgeous with the short blonde hair. :whew: Her downward spiral in this was every bit as amazing as Sosie Bacon in the first one. One more note on Naomi Scott, apparently the songs from the movie are legit, they released a little EP for them and they aren't bad at all, giving me Demi Lovato/Lady Gaga vibes.

Now to the ending...

Completely fukked... I think we are to assume everything from the hospital on is a mindfukk sequence, correct? That's what makes sense to me. Now, I wonder, with all of those witnesses, can this thing spread to several hosts at once because if it can, the third installment will be complete anarchy

:wow:

‘World War Z’ (2013)

Think I was fatigued with zombies by the time this came out and never paid it any mind, thanks to TWD’s rising popularity. Glad to finally give it a watch though, it’s a fun one. Seeing how the world initially responds to these types of situations and the ensuing chaos is usually my favorite part in these kind of flicks, be it zombie outbreak or alien invasion. Loved the opening act here, it came off very realistic. ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ from this past summer is another one I felt the same way about.

This was also a reminder of how fukkED I would be if a situation like this was to actually happen. No connect I can conveniently call up to fly my family and I to the nearest vessel off coast away from the threat.

Agile zombies that can build towers with their own bodies are scary as fukk. These felt like the ones I was fighting off in them Deadrising joints. One monstrous wave after another.

I thought the film was missing that chilling sense of dread that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s ‘28’ franchise has though. It’s something that I think Fincher would’ve done a better job handling if that sequel ever took off. Brad Pitt is undeniable as a leading man, but it felt like his Head and Shoulders ass hairdo served as major plot armor in this.:pachaha:

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 15 - Detention (Tubi)

This one's a trip. It's pure horror-comedy with a really stylish way of shooting everything. The transitions are fun, the kills have humor to them, and the plot is nuts. It's all jokes, though. This one scores low on the scares scale.

1. Triangle (Prime)
2. The Loved Ones (Paramount+)
3. Salem's Lot 2024 (Max)
4. Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (Tubi)
5. VHS Beyond (Shudder)
6. *Choose your own* - Haunt (2019)
7. Don't Go in the House (Tubi, Youtube)
8. Cure (Internet Archive)
9. Masque of the Red Death(Pluto/Apple TV+)
10. The Eyes of My Mother (Max)
11. Henry Portait of a Serial Killer (Peacock)
12. Curse of Chucky (Netflix)
13. *Choose your own*
14. Junk (2000) (Youtube)

16. Sleepaway Camp (Peacock)
17. The Skeleton Key(Peacock/Apple TV+)
18. The Witch (Max)
19. Brain Damage 1988 (Tubi)
20. *Choose your own*
21. Audition (Tubi)

Next up is a straight up classic!

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List -

15. Detention (2011) (Tubi)

This one is .....interesting
A mashup of genres - Horror - mild action- comedy - body horror- body swapping-1980's coming of age homage
wrapped in a by the numbers slasher no less. it has decent FX too.
there really is too much going on in this one, but somehow it just works
the Dr who style twist in the end was wild

but... my nikka being in detention since 1992 had me :dead:
Ngl brehs, I’m embarrassed as shyt for adding that to our list. This shyt was cheeks to me and a struggle to get through, full stop.

I couldn’t get over just how early 2010s the film is. Just about everything from the dialogue to the visuals embodied most of what I despised from that time period, lol. Take a late night program from Adult Swim and MTV around that time, combine the two, and I think you have ‘Detention’.

There are some good scenes, but ultimately I can see myself referring back to this one when the topic of “never go too meta” ever comes up.

Something about 1981 so many slashers with similar premises but 'Graduation Day' was still a lot of fun. Chick on the track team mysteriously dies, her older sister, a naval officer comes to town to investigate and it turns into a good old black gloves "who done it?." There's plenty of red herrings spread around to keep you guessing. Plenty of early 80's fukkery and debauchery. I enjoyed it. Oh and one more thing. Vanna White is in it Lol.

Last Night I watched Sinister and World War Z

Sinister

I haven't rewatched this movie since I saw it in theatres. I really enjoyed it, and this is closer to an A24 horror movie than a Blumhouse one. Some parts like you guys said didn't stand up over time. Am I tripping or did IT Part One steal the 8mm jumpscare from this?

The best parts of this movie for me are Hawke's character and the use of modern technology. The downfall of Hawke's character is his pride like the dad from The Witch. He doomed his family and could have saved them all but he kept going further down the rabbit hole for fame. I also like the use of modern technology in the film.

World War Z

I forget if I went to the movies to see this or not but I didn't like it the first time I watched it. This time I thought it was alright. The movie does seem like a Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich film. When I was watching it, the movie reminded me of the movie 2012. This movie and I Am Legend are probably the safest horror movies that appeal to the mainstream from the past 20 years.

I felt zombie fatigue as well so I never rewatched this or many of the other zombie movies that came out. Over the past 15-20 years, It seems like the trend was torture porn, then vampires, then zombies.

What trend do you guys think we are in currently? It was trauma for sure, not sure if we're still in it. Right now it seems like slashers again, AI horror, and pregnancy/motherhood.

26. The Burbs (Youtube)

Haven't seen this in a awhile
its basically feel good horror- its like a comedy version of the Monsters are due on Maple street
the fukkery just builds and builds in this flick. the weirdness of the neighbors just add to it as well.

Bruce Dern and Corey Feldman steal the show in this one
Bruce Dern's character is Dale Gribble before Dale Gribble

I am glad they used the eending they did because the alternate ending does not stick

27. *Choose your own*

Operation Bloodhunt

Its an okay werewolf flick and if you need a time waster - this is just fine for that
great FX , more gore than i expected, but it does have some weaknesses.

the werewolf designs are..........off, a step above Syfy budget
its actually a decent Action horror flick , but its just missing .....something

and "Fast Food Rampage" Jackson just phoned it in the entire flick.
its like he was literally on lithium the entire flick

I agree with that. I think Mike Judge was inspired by this movie when creating King of the Hill.

I agree with this too :dead: Rampage is my guy but he was :flabbynsick: and dull in this. A better performance would have made it a more popular movie and probably the sequel that they set up would be released. It had the potential to be the Action/Horror version of the Boyka franchise. IDK who else they could have gotten besides Michael Jai White.

I must have been on the same wavelength as others in here as we just watched 'Sinister' from 2012 as well. I had never seen it. It's creepy as a muthafukka throughout, I will say that. The snuff film angle was different, what other films even explore that? I can think of '8MM' off the top of my head. It was interesting seeing the writer try to piece all of these little things together, it unfolded like a 'True Detective' type of genre show before we get to some of the bigger reveals. Honestly, I would have liked more. I don't need everything revealed but just a little more would have sufficed here. I am aware that there's a sequel but my understanding is that it's beyond trash. I don't know if I should give it a watch or not. Ethan Hawke was great here.

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 26 - The Burbs
An overstressed suburbanite and his neighbors are convinced that the new family on the block is part of a murderous Satanic cult.

So, I'd never actually watched the Burbs and this was an absolute trip of movie. It has a bunch of 80's icons, and humor that hit all my nostalgia buttons. It's funny too, because I recall moving to neighborhoods like this, and also having weird neighbors with urban legends attached to their house. But this takes that stuff up 10 notches.

I found Art to be my favorite characters. He was like Tom Hanks' id embodied. There was a moment at the end where Tom Hanks was going, "WE'RE the problem," that made me think of all the MAGA craziness about Haitians in Ohio. But it turned out to be a ploy and the neighbors really were killers, so I flipped to thinking "maybe this is why Gen X falls that ish." :mjlol:

Jokes aside, this was really entertaining!
