good one… I might give it a 7 but a decent watch for sure…. Can’t be mad at the 8.
The only flaw I had was that Phoebe Tomkin's attempt to hide her Australian accent was obvious to me. This was the first time I'd seen her in a Lead role. (Secret circle, tvd, originals, the affair)

I watched Late Shift last night

It was ok. So far it's the best horror movie from this year I've seen. This year is stacked so it'll probably be near the end of the list. Night Swim still at the bottom:hhh:

The movie started to lose me when she started talking about the guy that killed her sisters and mom. I was like, "This bytch got Samara from the Ring and Michael Myers coming after her and she still won't leave her job :martin: "

I didn't see the twist coming at all. I don't think they really set it up though.

I do like the little nods to other horror movies. The taxidermy birds are from Psycho and the red are is The Shinning. I'm glad they didn't do the axe through the door shot. There another I noticed when I watched but I forgot.

Scottish horror comedy
.
not your typical werewolf flick, but that is okay
its kind of bloody, and has that dry euro humor

not a must see, but if you are bored and looking fpr something differnt, this is it.

basically a :flabbynsick: out of work, balding scientist discovers a hairgrowth serum using wolfsbane, OD's on it and turns into a werewolf
:russ:

breh should have just went to Turkey

I gave Night Shift a shot off strength of your comments, and I agree that it's the best horror I've seen so far this year. Though, I'd rate it more in the decent range than really great.

The good:
The cinematography was really dope IMO. Camera pans, use of light and shadows, and some of the close-ups (for example: zooming in on a phone to prime the audience) were all dope. It's got my favorite jump scare of the year so far. All the actors/actresses put in good work, especially Madison Hu and Lamorne Morris. I love it when you can tell the cast had fun with a scene and you can see it in a bunch of theirs.

The horror easter eggs were a really fun touch too.

The bad:
I didn't love the twist or the resolution. I didn't think it was set up well enough, and I had to suspend disbelief a little too hard to make the final act work.

I'd prefer a ghost story to another, "the MC was the killer the whole time" ending. Then she kinda became overpowered once she fully snapped. She bodied the two Murses then mixed speed with stealth to take out the other girl...and I'm kinda pissed they didn't keep the obnoxious couple around to kill.

That's not to say it ruined the movie or anything. I'd have just preferred a different choice. My only other complaint is that the horror score was great, but when they went into the comedic bits, they played this "it's a comedy part" music that I found hammy as hell.

Closer:
It's a solid 6.5 or 7 for me. I didn't love it, but it was well worth watching, and I'm checking for the writers/directors in the future. Looks like another brother duo. Benjamin and Paul China.

For those that liked this. There's a similar setup for a horror movie from last year called Bad Things. A group of girl friends go to an abandoned hotel that one of them is selling. There's weird "was that a ghost or a hallucination" stuff; creepy abandoned hotel setting; and a bunch of horror Easter Eggs. It doesn't have the sense of humor or style that Night Shift had, but I think the ghosty bits hit a more uncanny valley spot.
