Crazy that you’d mention Audition. It’s one of the only movies I feel like I could never watch again and it’s a true testament to how truly effective and disturbing it was. If its that disturbing I might have to reconsider :youngsabo:
I don't want to get your expectations that high. Audition is a true masterpiece, and damn near untouchable for me. This movie is chasing the uncanny valley vibe from Audition, but it doesn't have the disturbing brutality aspects. It replaces brutality with straight-up sadness and grief.

There's one scene near the end of New Religion that I'm pretty sure was inspired by Audition. But the rest is more of the dreamy weirdness from Audition, with more sadness and less scares. But damn if it isn't the weirdest, most unique joint I watched all year.

Getting some last month of year horror watches in...

Suitabel Flesh:
Suitable Flesh was disappointing. It's a Lovecraftian body-swapping horror where the entity's only defining characteristic is that it's horny. There are the pieces of an interesting story, but none of it's conveyed in ways that matter. A psychiatrist (Heather Graham) watches a new patient being briefly possessed, but she takes it for multiple-personality disorder since that's what she researches and publishes on. The entity winds up taking a liking to her, which leads it to try both seducing and possessing her.

The premise is great, and the cast is pretty stacked for a low-budget horror. But the characters are pretty flat, and none of the actors have any chemistry. So even when the movie tries to use sex to stay interesting, it's just awkward. I found it all pretty lame, with the only redeeming quality being an attractive cast.

To sum it up...
Kinda wack, but Heather Graham's still hot...

It's a Wonderful Knife:
It's a Wonderful Knife was entertaining and had a good sense of humor. Though, I don't think it did enough to break into the best Christmas horror movies...low-key, Christmas has a lot of good stuff. Anyway, this one follows the same mold as Freaky and Happy Death Day as a High School/College student deals with a slasher in a horror movie that's got better jokes than scares. I think Freaky and Happy Death Day were better though, they had better kills.

To sum it up...
Thanksgiving is the holiday horror you should watch, but this is alright.

Have yall discussed the “it follows” sequel in here? Suppose to go into production 1st quarter next year
I've got two thoughts after hearing that:
1. It Follows is one of my favorite horror movies ever, and I think it's a clear influence for some big hits that followed (:hhh:), like Smile for example.

2. I pretty much never trust a sequel that takes so long to get made. My anecdotal experience tells me that they're more likely to be cash-grabs than legitimate continuations on the original vision...maybe that's just most sequels in general.

The premise for It Follows should be easy to come up with new creative stories for (just like Talk to Me tbh). So, I'll keep an eye out for what the writers, producers, creators, etc are saying in interviews. I HOPE this lives up to the first one, and I'm 99% likely to go see it on opening weekend to get a feel for how a theater audience takes it.

Semi-related sidenote: I didn't get to see It Follows in theater, which I regret. I saw Smile on its opening weekend, and the audience tensing up and panicking made the experience awesome. I hope a sequel to It Follows will recapture that vibe.

i did see it in the theatre at first reluctantly. I went with some chick who wanted to see it but not alone so she dragged me along. I wasn’t even aware of it but it was in her radar for a while so she offered dinner to go see it with her and I obliged. When it first came on with its older looking timeframe, I was looking at her like :comeon::gucci:. And then the date scene happened and I was :lupe:. Discussing the entire over dinner was great. . I was impressed.
It reminded mel When I went to go see the ring. Same scenario.

I'm a big proponent of the theater experience for great horror movies. I was in theaters for Paranormal Activity and Sinister on their opening nights, and they turned me into a huge fan. Being with an unexpected crowd as this happened had to be amazing,

Same for this:

The Movie I WISH I was in a theater audience for this year is When Evil Lurks. I threw it on for my brother and his GF, and their reactions were great...messed up movie man!

Birth/Rebirth is one of the best horror movies of the year. It's a slow-burn tale done right and a hard-watch, but damn is it impossible to look away once it gets going. It's ALMOST the premise of Re-Animator, but don't expect anything campy or sexy...this is a cold, dark, real look at the lengths a mother would go to keep her child alive and the type of obsession a scientist would need to conduct this kinda experiment.

A morgue technician successfully reanimates the body of a little girl, but to keep her breathing, she will need to harvest biological materials from pregnant women. When the girl's mother, a nurse, discovers her baby alive, they enter into a deal that forces them both down a dark path of no return.

If you're on the fence, watch the trailer. But I think you're better off skipping the trailer and just giving this a shot for the first 20-30 minutes and seeing how you feel.

There's not a lot of action in the general sense. It's gripping because of the characters and the performances. We hyper-focus on the two leads and they absolutely kill it. The mother is played by Victoria Munoz, who was in Smile as the college professor's wife (the one with the hammer). I think she has my favorite performance of the year for a horror movie.

Anyway, I won't add more. The less spoiled the better.
