For the people that watched Scream 6 is it true she stepped it up in the latest installment? I remember watching 5 and thinking Jenna Ortega was outshinning her when she got out of the hospital.

I watched Dusk Til Dawn 2 and 3.

The second movie was low budget with some OK ideas. Whoever shot or directed the movie had to be big a Tarantino fan. There's so many shots looking out of something. Damn near everytime a vampire bites something, multiple shots out of trunks, shots out of skulls, shots out of poles, shots out of shots. God damn it got annoying. Tuck and the T1000 were the highlights of the movie.

I enjoyed Dusk Til Dawn 3 a lot. Maybe it's because I don't watch many westerns but I had fun with the story before they got to the Bordello. I didn't like that the vampire blood was green. The vampire story with Jango Fett was pretty weak. I'm calling him Jango Fett cause he wasn't :flabbynsick:like when he plays Boba Fett. Orlando Jones was underutilized. Besides the green blood and the vampire bats the effects were very good. There we also some interesting deaths in this movie. I don't think I'll watch 2 again but I'll check this one out for sure.
Much better. A far-cry from how wooden she was in the fifth entry.

I think familiarity with the cast and embracing Sam’s crazy side more are factors that helped a ton here.

I wish it was easier to navigate this thread. Like, I'm having such a hard time finding quality horror to watch because I feel like I've seen everything worth watching. I want to comb the thread to find hidden gems but goddamn. We need a comprehensive list of coli recommendations and maybe a weekly highlight of a scary movie or some shyt idk

I'm getting so desperate I finally broke down and watched Terrifier last night. It's a cool lil movie, but the reason I wasn't super eager to watch it sooner is because gore porn doesn't really do it for me. I'm not squeamish, I can watch it with no problem but it's just kinda like :hhh: damn is that all this is gonna be?

Why yes, yes it is. Oh well. I'm off to watch terrifier 2. Hopefully y'all got some shyt for me when I get back

lmao! I get what you mean. It's a big mix of reviews, previews, news, and all sorts of discussion. My tips to get the most out of the thread:
1. Use thread search function - Look up movie suggestion lists elsewhere, then visit the thread and do a search of that movie title.

2. The Halloween lists - This only works around Halloween, but many posters used to (or still do) put together 30 days of horror lists. They're generally good mixes of classics and new horror where you can save a few of those and have a bunch of stuff to recall and go after. I didn't know the quality that is Exorcist 3 until it got thrown on a Halloween 30 for 30 list.

3. Request it - If you post a movie you like and ask for suggestions on new options, there's usually an enthusiastic post or two with some ideas. Results may vary because some genres are slim pickings (like the Western and Medieval requests recently), but other asks can get you a lot.

4. Keep a list - This thread can go pages in a day or two. So if you see a cool suggestion and hype review, it's worth having a list to plant it on. I keep a note in my phone with all the suggestions I haven't watched yet.

I am bad about just posting a youtube link and not putting the title of the movie in the post. That makes it very difficult when searching. I will pay better attention to that going forward.

I am also on another level with my horror tastes so I may not be the best person. I lean on foreign and indie horror heavy.

To paraphrase PINHEAD. I am an explorer in the further regions of horror experience.

Finally back home brehs.
I was trapped in the Fort Lauderdale airport due to all the flooding. It was like surviving a disaster horror flick. Airport is completely shut down with 2 feet of water on the runways. It was wild . we left the airport, got an UBER to Miami and got some flights back to NC today.

Getting the most out of my Screambox subscription...I got a couple of worthy joints to discuss.

First a fun documentary: Living with Chucky

image

This one's a fun documentary. It covers all of the movies, but not particularly in-depth from the technical aspects or marketing and reception. Rather, it focuses a lot on the creators from producers to writers to cast and crew. It really captures how much love is involved from everyone that helps put these films together. There's a lot of fun from interviews with the cast members. I'm especially partial to all the clips of Brad Dourif and his daughter Fiona (I didn't know the wheelchair-bound hero was his daughter until watching this). If you like Child's Play movies, this is a fun watch.

But the one I'm really stoked about is the Japanese remake of the original Cube.

Lemme preface this with the fact that I'm a Cube stan. I think the original's a classic. I think the follow-ups are good to varying degrees, but with the expanding story getting a bit campier each time. So this reset of the OG story is kinda made to my tastes.

For newcomers, in each Cube movie a group of strangers wake up in a Cube. There are doors on each wall leading to more square-shaped rooms with more doors. It seems impossible to tell how far in you are or if there's an exit...and some rooms are booby-trapped in ways that will cause brutal death. The characters have to search their way through the Cube, avoiding the trap rooms while looking for a way out. But paranoia sets in with these strangers trying to figure out why they're there. It's a great premise, the OG movie adds a heavy dose of philosophy and mystery, and they're all fun.

The Japanese film is a good launch point. It hits a lot of points that the original made, including some of the most iconic traps and moments. But if you're not sure about it, I suggest finding the original because it's a faster trip through the plot (but that comes with some flaws).

Newcomers: Skip this spoilered section.
For series vets, I think it comes down to how much you liked the first film. This retreads the key plot points and revisits a lot of the best beats from that original. But a longer run-time allows for better character development, and they've tossed some of the philosophical quandaries in exchange for more natural character growth and more focused themes. That gives this one the most satisfying conclusion out of any of the Cube movies IMO.

It's also important to mention that the characters are much different from the original version. They have their own pasts and unique reactions to everything happening. Whereas the original Cube gave us archetypes that devolve as time goes on, this version is more focused on people's true colors coming out the more stress they're under. I liked the change! It gave fresh perspectives to old story beats, and all my favorite easter eggs were still there.

This is also the first Cube movie where I cared about the characters and felt a type of way when some of them were in peril.

Long story short, as a stan for the classic trilogy, this felt fresh enough to be surprised but kept all of my favorite things about the movies. It made me want to rewatch the first Cube...and I'm debating whether it's my favorite or second-favorite of the series. They didn't reinvent the wheel, they gave the care a tune-up and a new paint job.

Word that's pretty cool Im not part of any threads like this so I'm excited to be here. Worry not, for I shall be sure to feed the horror streets with my opinions n reviews. As I said before, I love this shyt.

So Let's start with my favorite: zombies. Ill list my GOAT 10 and from there if you see anything you would knock off to replace something else with, I'm all ears. But be warned brehs. I'll be 32 this year, so my eyes can tolerate going back a great deal, but anything before 1990 gets kinda :ld: visually. I'm really really not tryna watch nothing before then. I heard The Thing is goated and it probably is but I tried watching it earlier this year and hit the Seinfeld gif about 5 minutes in solely due to the way it's filmed. Even though I watched the original Alien recently and really really liked that so idk? Anyways, without further adieu

1) Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

2) Train To Busan

3) 28 Days/Weeks Later ( can't decide which one I like more. 28 days looks like it was filmed with a potato but everything else about the movie was so good. 28 weeks was shot much clearer and also very good)

5) [🔴REC]

6) Resident Evil

7) The Girl With All The Gifts

8) I Am Legend

9) The Crazies (I know this don't count really as zombies but :wow: damn brehs this was some shyt here)

10) World War Z

This was the first time I ever sat back and compiled a list, and damn it took me so long I had to pause the movie.

If you thought Terrifier is gore porn. Then Terrifier 2 is gonna be a XXX Hardcore snuff film. :russ:
Watching it now. This story is hilariously trash but something about the atmosphere of these movies grabs you and you have no desire to turn it off lol. Like I can honestly say both this shyt is trash and yet I'm moderately entertained :ehh: not bad Damien Leone, not bad. I typically don't be on my phone during movies but there's not a whole lot to pay attention to in between the spooky scenes so I'm chillin but definitely enjoying the ride at the same time lmao very unusual yet satisfying. I saw it's rated a 6 on imdb and that's extremely appropriate.

I’m the same way (and also 32), but my cutoff is 1970. I wanna get into like classic universal monsters and shyt like that, but just can’t do it.

That said, I would strongly recommend giving The Thing another shot.

Renfield was a lot of fun. Fun, campy horror that had an opportunity of turning into something serious and instead chose to keep on the silly route. The hyper-violence was a cool addition as well. I’d go see it again if I wasn’t stuffed with next week’s releases.

3. Return of the Living Dead (1993)

4. Train to Busan

5. 28 Days Later

6. Dawn of the Dead

Breh, without like spoiling it please tell me what is it about Shaun of The Dead that gets the people going. I think horror and comedy are two genres that should NEVER mix. I thought people ranking Shaun #1 was trolling until I saw it on real publications

The comedy is genuinely funny, the characters are all likeable and better developed than the average zombie movie, the emotional aspects connect as well as any, and it works to deconstruct the flaws that had formed in the classic slow-moving zombie horror genre.

I think horror comedies land best when they include some kinda satirization or deconstruction of their subject matter. Tuck and Dale vs Evil flipping the slasher story is another one I hold in high regard.
