Bout to rock with this movie tonight- another quarantine themed horror movie 🙄. PeacockTV

It’s giving “Scream ” with a twist of lockdown for me - 90s era horror vibes.

SICK

Horror • TV-MA • Movie • 1h 22m • 2023

As the pandemic steadily brings the world to a halt, Parker and her best friend Miri decide to quarantine at the family lake house alone—or so they think. Directed by John Hyams (Alone), written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Katelyn Crabb, SICK stars Gideon Adlon (Blockers, The Craft: Legacy), Bethlehem Million (And Just Like That), Marc Menchaca (The Outsider, Ozark) and Jane Adams (Twin Peaks, Poltergeist, Hacks).

This was a dope watch. The sound design and adrenaline-fueled chase scenes were exactly what I was hoping to experience with Scream (2022). Normally I can’t deal with COVID-associated storylines, but Williamson managed to infuse that classic, dark humor of his into the script and overall it just made for a really fun time.

The bit where lady wouldn’t let Parker get in the car without a mask amongst a chase-down had me dying. :mjlol:

The reveal of the killers and their motives near the end came off wacky to me, but I also can’t say the film suffered because of it. It always came across as a story that didn’t take itself too seriously, so it’s able to get away with scenarios like such. I’m just glad a slasher tried something different at the end of the day, even if it didn’t really mesh well for my taste.

I’ll give it a 7/10. I think those who like a slasher that isn’t afraid of going full throttle should have a good time with it. Definitely wish I was able to catch some parts of this in the theater, or at least with the surround sound.

Edit: my update- This movie is better than the latest Scream. Started watching it last night and I’m finishing the watch with 45 minutes left rn but this has the top spot in the slasher genre over anything that I watched last year. Noticing that 2023 is coming out the gate with what the game needed

And I see, “Bethlehem Million” black actress ffom Flatbush Misdemeanors having a lead role in this

I hope she doesn’t get murked by the killer 😢but I have a feeling this will end up black girl tragic
:mjcry:
They made the characters too likeable - I don’t want to see her or her friend get got, I’ve become invested - lol. Usually I feel nothing 👿

Edit - totally feeling the “I know what you did last summer” + “scream” throwback references in this.

Heard nothing but great things surrounding Flatbush Misdemeanors. Definitely checking it out now that I know she’s in it. The actress who played Parker in the movie looks like a pudgy version of Mikey Madison. Both could get it. :noah:

Ignoring the lustful last few lines of your commentary. (I think y’all forget that I’m a girl too, I do not want to read who can “get it” from you”. 🤣:unsure:But anyway, it is a good show- Have you seen this thread?

Second season not as improvisational or funny or as the first but still good moments throughout.

Edit- nvm. I see you posted in that thread already

I’m kinda puzzled by the cancellation still. Showtime got the Emmy-bait dramas nailed down, but surely they could use more comedic programming like this, no? I can’t even say “HBO would never” with the time they’ve been on lately. :snoop:
