Yeah, Smile is absolutely elite. It's got elements of the Ring and It Follows for sure, and handles them well enough to feel different. The cinematography brought me back to the first Candyman a few times along with a bit of Oculus. The sound and how they utilized it to prime the theater for scares reminded me of Sinister. And that priming hit my audience most similar to Paranormal Activity. It had so much that reminded me of really good horror.

This year is crazy. Barbarian and Smile are battling for the crown for me so far. That knocks X out of the running when I was sure it'd be my favorite. That's before I get to Incantation. Plus I haven't seen Pearl yet. Shudder has had some really fun originals drop too. Hellraiser, The Menu, Satanic Hispanics, and Halloween Ends are coming out soon. How many years are competing with this one for horror?
The hope you have for Halloween Ends after Halloween Kills is admirable

Watched Mimic. Imagine if this happen in real life brehs. I hate roaches with a passion.

Decent film that sounded mad stupid on paper but they tried their best to make it interesting. I appreciated the cast, the dark tone, and actually trying to make sense of how this all happened.

I thought it was silly how they all survived the explosion at the end, but I let it slide. Oh girl out running that train tho, come on lmao.

I’m pretty sure if I tried I could have nitpicked the film to find it’s cons but decided not too. Enjoyable film to watch that I didn’t know has a series with two more films.

I won’t watch those though. It was fun but I didn’t like it like that to continue.
I'd recommend Mimic 2 personally cause I think the story is pretty solid and the effects hold up. But yeah I love Mimic. I feel like it could have been so much better if the studio hadn't interfered so much. It was a Weinstein production and they changed some of the things Del Toro wanted to do including the ending which was supposed to be much bleaker. His ending had them escaping to find out that they were surrounded by the creatures who had infiltrated society which signaled the end of humanity. I can't wait for the tv show remake.

I’ll check it out eventually then since you recommend it

Nah some dude comes in and shoots everyone up and let’s Michael free and the movie ends on a cliff hanger

Oh that's right. I was gonna say, that part 4 ending coulda been dope if they followed through on it. 5 is where I think they really passed the point of no return for that series of Halloween movies. They started just throwing ish into the movies thinking they could write around it in sequels and ish.

I was pretty hype that Life Changer popped up on Shudder. I hadn't seen it before, but I remembered hearing good things. The main character is a shape shifter that absorbs people's life force...their memories, image, and all. He has to body swap because he starts to rot, and the intervals between bodies has started to get shorter. He's also hopelessly in love with a woman whose husband he absorbed once, which is a predicament when you have to kill and change bodies at decreasing intervals of time.

As a sidenote, literally all of that covers the first five minutes of this joint. It's really economical with its plot and the body snatcher POV is as cool as it sounds, while creating mess up and creepy situations. I really enjoyed it. It's such a cool idea!
I watched this earlier today. Really cool idea, but the execution wasn’t great imo.

This could definitely use a remake with a higher budget and better actors.
