Wolf Man felt half-baked to me. Abbott shines the most in the midst of transformation. Julia Garner on the other hand wasn’t doing much and got outacted by the daughter. There’s a layer of the film that felt missing and I honestly thought it could’ve gotten meaner. I still fukks with Leigh, but Cianfrance would’ve taken this to another level had he stayed put.

The sound design was on point. Some genuinely gross out moments that I appreciated here. Transformation bits clearly got a lot of its inspiration from The Fly and lets the body horror shine in Cronenberg glory.

Leigh’s The Invisible Man, which is a good flick in its own right, looks like a masterpiece in comparison. Made for 7M too vs. the 25M invested in Wolf Man.

So...this was mid, but warrants a shout out.

Get Away starts off as one part satire and one part "foriegn places are creepy" tropes. But it has some Nick Frost dry humor thrown in. It's pretty dry with hints of a gory side, until about 2/3's through...then it tweaks the formula and throws everything into pure chaos. The gore combined with the humor makes for a final act that I found entertaining enough to give this a shout out, particularly because I could see people getting bored and turning it off due to impatience.

So...not great. But worth a "I'll give it a shot" if you're looking for new horror with comedic focus.

I think that lowlifes pulled it off better.

I went on a date to see it. I thought it was decent for what it was. Better than most Blumhouse movies imo and I’m usually hard on their movies.

Someone asked me if the body horror in this was gruesome— it was very tamed.

I thought the story was enjoyable. And the movie doesn’t drag, gets straight to the point which I like here.

100% Co-sign on that note.
It helped that they revealed the twist much earlier. So, that let them lean into the horror side and construct some fun scenarios. GetAway is an hour of cringe before 20 minutes of fun...the ending scene cracked me up too.

I gave lowlifes an honorable mention in my Sleeper of the Year for my 2024 picks:
lowlifes

The Sleeper of the year:
Beezel had a low budget and came out of nowhere. I completely stumbled on it and was pleasantly surprised at how many quality moments they packed into a limited run time and budget.

Honorable Mentions:
- Lowlifes is the best horror movie that Tubi's put out in a very long time. It's got elements of a bunch of horror movies I loved in the past, but puts a clever spin on everything. It's still Tubi horror, but this was good enough for me to keep giving their originals a shot for another year.

- MADS feels like it came out of nowhere. I'm not sure if it's actually a one-shot film or just edited brilliantly, but the effect is all the same. It's REC or 28 days later if we followed around people as they slowly became infected.

- Ironically, Sleep is a damned good movie that hasn't gotten its propers. It's Bong Joon Ho-approved and puts a really clever spin on a tried and true horror trope.

Smile 2 was the horror movie of the year for me by far. Everything else was pretty much a disappointment.
The main actress:fire: kilt it. Plus, they kept amping the FUKKERY up through the camera angles, jump-scares,

random jokes, and gorefest. This is what Trap failed to do; especially with that demonic choreagraphy sequence:myman::whew:

Looking forward to these two whenever you start 'em. That's two series that I've known about but never taken the time to truly get into. Phantasm one is great, though.

More microbudget horrors making waves on youtube? This homage to Giallo is getting some love, and I'm tagging it here so I remember to check it out later.

An artist believes her headaches could be connected to a mysterious disappearance.

Director comments:
Migraine traces back to a piece of Elm Street fan fiction I wrote at 13 in 2004. Rediscovering this, along with my love for Giallo, sparked the inception of the film you're about to witness. A homage to the realms of Italian horror and the art of slow-burning personal narratives, this film embodies the essence of 1970s horror in its purest form.

Every sound effect, every edit, every piece of questionable, choppy music choices, and every frame pays homage to a bygone era. Our aim was to fashion a film that exudes the aura of being lost to the annals of time, only to resurface in the modern age, offering a glimpse into a hauntingly beautiful past.

Made possible by the exceptional Shea Briar and our long-time collaborator, SFX artist Jilliann Symes, Migraine reaches new heights. Literally. Edited in Windows Movie Maker XP and filmed over four days atop the stunning Appalachian Mountains with just a tripod and a singular camera, this project is a miracle in indie filmmaking. Inspired by Argento, the master of Giallo, we chose to dub the film entirely in post-production, adhering to the era's distinctive editing techniques.

Follow Farrah Walker, an artist seeking a new beginning in a remote mountain house, only to be plagued by severe headaches. As her pain intensifies, Farrah discovers that her headaches are more than just a medical issue; they are cryptic clues leading her to unravel a chilling mystery surrounding the disappearance of a serial killer's victim years earlier.

Our resident Giallo head sounds hella busy, but I know a few of you have more knowledge than I do of the genre. I'd be curious to hear thoughts. Plus, I'd like to use this thread to support indy horror whenever we can.

Yea I know it’s a show that’s not really in the horror category . But man I liked the first season and heard a lot of people not liking 2 as much . I get it. But as a horror lover of the sadistic included, I fukking loved this new season. It has a darkness to the games I don’t think slot of people appreciate it. The overall tone of the first might be more hopeless and the surprise factor gets you. But the games this season are a little more demented which really gives you a sense of, they are trying to up the ante with how many people they eliminate each game and they are more traumatic to me. Outside the games I get the season one favoritism. But the actual games and acting and cinematography , I give it to 2. If you like horror you should give it a real shot. fukk any review. This shyt hit different. Pulls you in
