I still believe Ari Aster has next for the next big face of horror. Midsommar wasn't all that but the work put in it is respectable.
Hereditary was so fukking fire, a freaking horror classic that we should anticipate greatness in his future projects until proven otherwise because we only have a small sample of his work.

Jordan Peele is so mid to me. Get Out was decent, but I'm not a part of the group that LOVED it. Us was trash as fukk. I haven't seen NOPE. Reviews are mixed, but the consensus is that it's not his best work. I hope he keeps making horror films because we need more horror films on the big screen, but I'm not a fan of his work. At all.

I watched It Chapter 2 again today for like the first time since it came out. That movie had no business being that long:snoop:

Having read the book and watching the OG miniseries I still think the ending in the remake is better than King's. That lame ass shyt with his catatonic wife and them riding the bike was trash:francis:

I hope HBOMax actually releases the Pennywise origin story. Need that desperately.

Bill Skarsgard the GOAT
I didn't understand the hate the new IT series got.

The Stranger Things comparison for the part I is true, but I didn't think that necessarily takes away from the film.
It's also a gripe I feel will fade away as the years go on. You can call it bad timing for the film since Stranger Things has the world on lock these last few years.

My only complaint was the length. I love the IT series but watching those films have to be a rare occasion.

People think it’s prime time to shyt on other people’s directors/creators of interests in this thread. Isn’t that correct @Lootpack?

Here's Every Rob Zombie Movie, Ranked

BYDAVID L TAMARIN
PUBLISHED FEB 20, 2022

Rob Zombie puts the auteur in 'provocateur,' with his obvious love of grindhouse films and dirty 70s aesthetic. His love for that era's horror and exploitation films likeThe Last House on the Left and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (evident in his use of 70s actors like Bill Moseley and Sid Haig) is absolutely infectious.

Rob Zombie also states that he hates his own Halloween 2 from 2009. Interesting.

Seems like JC and RZ have more in common than they don’t. They both seem passionate about their craft - would not be shocked at all if Rob wasn’t a creative consultant on this 2021 version. All of the murders from the trailer look like the horror to the core violence that Rob Zombie usually uses. Bet Carpenter paid him on the low for help with the content bc Zombie knows how to execute

Im not only one that noticed the similarities to Rob Zombie’s work in comparison to the trailer online either — it’s not just a fan theory.

8. Halloween (2007)

Or, “The One Where Rob Zombie Remakes a Classic”

Remaking an iconic film is never a good idea, but give credit to producer Malek Akkad for going the ambitious route by signing Rob Zombie to steer the remake of Halloween. The resulting film is... well he tried, but much of the script is packed with reprehensible characters spouting reprehensible dialogue. The film’s greatest asset is Zombie's direction, as he opts to make the franchise entirely his own rather than trying to follow in John Carpenter’s footsteps. In a twist, Zombie’s film decides to give much more shading to the Michael Myers character, and indeed Halloween is very much his movie. Turning Loomis into a cash-grabbing opportunist was an inspired choice, and there are a few interesting detours to be found assuming you're not immediately put off by the film's unabashedly "gross" nature.

The film gets indulgent at points and suffers from odd pacing, but Tyler Bates’ score is a welcome twist on Carpenter’s classic theme yet. Zombie's Halloween isn't for everyone, but it at the very least gets credit for taking such significant liberties with the source material rather than simply retreading territory Carpenter had already worn.

——
This. He gets my respect for taking on such a historically relevant horror movie classic and flipping it into his own version.

I feel you Mike, they hate when you don’t cooperate, one-sided opinions, lack of respect for the dark art of horror storytelling and elements.

My problem with Ari Aster is he's been MIA for 5 years. He doesn't get much love in this thread, but I'm a big fan of both Hereditary and Midsommar. But a lot of his peers are picking up TV credits and doing extra work that keeps their names fresh pretty much all the time. When Aster drops a new project, I'll be there to support for sure. I don't know if he can claim next without establishing a catalogue though.

I think Peele is more a victim of expectations than anything. But I loved all his movies. Us is entertaining as hell, Nope was clever AF, and Get Out is a certified classic to me. He also has the power of influence. You can see Hollywood chasing Get Out with a bunch of unfortunately disappointing projects ever since that ish came out. Peele meanwhile has had a hand in producing the Twilight Zone series, Lovecraft Country, and Candyman. Plus he had writing credits for a lot of projects too. I do understand people not feeling his work (kinda nerdy stuff IMO, because I'm a geek and eat it all up). But I think his overall impact is just crazy and the closest thing to Wan out of anyone we've name-dropped so far.

But I think Ti West is the one I'm watching for closest. If Pearl comes out and hits like I think/hope it will, he'll get access to bigger budgets and options. He's been an output machine for television shows and now it seems like he's getting more freedom for film. If he can lock in bigger budgets in support, I think he'll wind up putting out a lot of dope projects.
