My found footage marathoning brought me across Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. Very similar premise to Grave Encounters, but the reality show is a youtube live stream for this one. I really enjoyed it. It feels like the creators were patient as hell. They're not afraid to take a little bit longer with a close-up on a panicked character or a just out-of-focus form in the distance that doesn't move. That patience does make the first half run a little bit longer than it might have had to, but I chalk that up to characterizing the whole cast and also giving us a lighter mood before the shyt really hits.

It's got one sequence in particular that I think is my favorite in any found footage/POV movie...I'll give it some time to see how lasting that feeling is though. Either way, there's one section of this movie that I think is genuinely scary and memorable to the max. I really enjoyed the scares once they got going.

I really liked this one:

probably gonna peep this tonight. What was your top 5 on found footage so far while marathoning?

There's a few I forgot and still a few I haven't seen. I know I got out of horror movies sometime in the 2000s because I just didn't like the 1st person filmed movies like Rec/Quarantine, Paranormal Activity. I know there was a period where if something got big a lot of studios tried to make movies that were similar. That was annoying.

As soon as Universal dropped that Munsters theatrical trailer, execs witnessed the reception on some
full
and said

you know what actually, let’s send this shyt to Netflix. :whoa:

I’m pretty sure the dislike bar would’ve resembled a cigarette if YouTube still featured it. :mjlol:
Keep keekeeing it up - it’s all fun and games until some woman from NYC who likes horror movies goes full Esther the Orphan status and stabs you in the face with a fireplace poker and bashes with a hammer until your face resembles a bowl of baked ziti with Parmesan cheese topping extra sauce - closed casket, no face no waste. For talking reckless online about someone who she is a fan of . Not that I would necessarily condone the action but I definitely understand

Oh I’m about to respond to this soon !! Loot lost his rabid mind talking about 2000s not being a seminal moment in horror movies -
We had wrong turn, urban legends, Texas chainsaw, last house on the left, i saw what you did last summer, Halloween RZ, devils rejects, orphan, the ring, scream, hills have eyes and that’s just off the top of my head as I’m angry typing

2000s era had ALL of the rewatch value valuable horror movies. These modern movies today I can barely make it through an entire movie sitting or turn it off after 20 minutes.
:scust: :smh:

2000s had Saw, Jason reboot, Freddy remix, house of wax

Early 2000s was every damn thing!!! Any horror movie you watched in that era couldn’t miss even if they tried. That time period was the shyt!!!!

Anddddddd

FOUND FUKKIN FOOTAGE!!!!!! Which completely turned the genre on to a whole different level

End of debate

It’s always been like that tho. Slashers in the 80s, meta stuff in the 90s, elevated horror now.

@RGM
House of 1000 Corpses was good too, IMO. Both of those directors have distinctive styles that shine on-screen, but the writing seems to be their Achilles heel.

Rooting for em but it looks like both of these dudes are about to fukk up their upcoming adaptations.
out of the Firefly family movies, House of 1000 corpses is my favorite one
shyts trippy as hell
i wanna see a whole movie on Doctor Satan

You're right. I'm just hating because I didn't like that variety. The 90s also had a lot of witch movies which I don't mind. The 2000s at least had more variety with Japanese Horror Remakes, 80's remakes, found footage, and torture porn. I should also go back and watch movies that I didn't like before.

I watched the Grindhouse movies this week and Death Proof is better to me now than when I first watched it. If every character didn't talk like QT it'd actually be a very good. Also Mary Elizabeth Winstead has to be the most forgettable actress for me for whatever reason. I thought Katherine Isabelle played her character in Death Proof. Every time someone says she looks good I'm like who and have to google the movies she was in and am like hmm I don't remember her being in this. I did like her as Huntress in Birds of Prey.

Yeah 90s and 00s are below average decades for me. There’s still a lot of good stuff from that time but 70s 80s 10s and 20s so far are more consistently good imo

I watched It Chapter 2 again today for like the first time since it came out. That movie had no business being that long:snoop:

Having read the book and watching the OG miniseries I still think the ending in the remake is better than King's. That lame ass shyt with his catatonic wife and them riding the bike was trash:francis:

I hope HBOMax actually releases the Pennywise origin story. Need that desperately.

Honestly, the newer stuff has been kinda light outside of the three Asian horrors I've caught Noroi (Shudder), Incantation (Netflix), Gonjiam (Shudder). I haven't really found any gems otherwise. Thought I have enjoyed rewatching some harder to find joints that made it onto Tubi. Banshee Chapter and the Sacrament are legit! I don't have a particular order in mind, but those five would be the best that I've watched up to this point (that's only considering what I've watched in the past few weeks).
