The Bird with the Crystal PlumageTo me the best slashers are not the supernatural, Jason, Freddy, etc, it's ones that follow more of the Agatha Christie/Scream blueprint, where the killer is revealed at the end, that's the intrigue to me, even in a dumb slasher, is finding the killer, and what their likely preposterous (in a bad slasher) motive was. I need some recommendations in that lane, as I finish up the horror movies for this month. 'Scream' is the classic, but 'Urban Legend' is close to me, as far as slasher/mysteries goes.
It felt too appeasing, as if it were a Hollywood remake rather than a foreign film - simply relying on Farsi doesn't really cut it. The political/social eisegesis is somewhat there, but it never digs deep enough and meanders too much instead of time better served on her [a woman's] experience and frustration during the Iran-Iraq conflict. That's the real horror, and instead of using the supernatural to underline that and open those wounds, it's used as more of a vehicle for jump scares.saw the movie Under The Shadow
it was really good
has a nice horror atmosphere
A Tale of Two Sisters. Can someone give me an actual scary movie to watch
Even better on second viewing. Still blown away at how good this film is, even picked up on a lot of shyt I glossed over when I first saw it. @porque if you haven't checked this out yet - this is social commentary and the supernatural done right.
Actually the Resident Evil comparison more so applies to Day of the Dead 1985 due to the military connection. It's genuinely a good movie, one of my favorite horror movies now. Just saw it earlier today.Zombi 2(Lucio Fulci)-1979
Zombies haven't looked this good since. This is basically a Resident Evil movie that actually seems like it could be related to the Resident Evil game series. The effects are great and so is the music.
Just finished Dawn of the Dead, good movie. More light in some areas than Night or Day. Still a good cast of characters, the movie overall feels more fun and action oriented than the other 2. I like how Romero has good black characters in the films too. Duane Jones in Night, Ken Foree in Dawn(Rob Zombie likes to work with him too) and Terry Alexander in Day. All of them are good characters too, strong, smart and capable it's cool to see that. I also liked Ving Rhames in the Dawn remake.Actually the Resident Evil comparison more so applies to Day of the Dead 1985 due to the military connection. I don't know why I watched Night of the Living Dead so many years back but didn't get to Dawn or Day yet but man, the characters, plot, make up effects, etc were all great. Memorable characters and it was cool to see a doctor making progress in communicating with a zombie and teaching him stuff. I thought that was the most interesting concept explored. Strong female lead, great antagonist, good side characters and good dialogue.
