It was decent in terms of the constant sense of foreboding the film maintained and the unflinching look at the struggles of the poor, undocumented and single women in this country. Plus the monster design was really cool.
The downside was that the movie was almost defiantly vague so there was no real explanation for why anything that happened in this movie needed to happen.

I give No One Gets Out Alive 2 out 4 Gun Totin' Dr. Loomis'

October 2nd: Bingo Hell

I wanted to like Bingo Hell because the premise sounded awesome and maybe it would've been if it were directed by someone competent. Instead this movie was directed by someone who should never be allowed behind a camera ever again. The film was just a sloppy mishmash of poorly edited scenes and amateurishly staged action set pieces. The two old lady lead actresses (Adrianna Barazza and L. Scott Caldwell) were working hard to make shyt out of sugar and Richard Brake was great as always but good acting can only do so much.

I give Bingo Hell 1 out 4 Gun Totin' Dr. Loomis'

Yeah, it was a solid watch, I wish they'd leaned into the creature and the box more instead of the apparitions. But it was decent.

October 3rd: Midnight Mass

While a bit meandering and prone to theological navel gazing (especially in the first 3 episodes), Midnight Mass recovers nicely and from episodes 4-7 becomes the tense, harrowing horror show I went into it expecting.
Creator, writer and director Mike Flanagan did a bang up job giving the world his version of a Stephen King tale and while he may not have stuck the landing perfectly I do give him credit for ending things on a solidly morose note.

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
Jumping in on the 31 day Halloween marathon two days late. I'm gonna start tonight with Antebellum.

Review:

This was terrible! What a waste. The premise was interesting, but they didn't do anything with it, and then it just became absurd. It was like Black slave torture porn or something. Ugh. I think I'm gonna just do straight horror tomorrow. Probably the first Halloween movie.

Just watched the disney channel remake of Under Wraps. Damn it was bad.
I remember them Disney Channel joints from way back lol. Don’t Look Under the Bed was probably the only one that kinda spooked me. :picard:

I’ll laugh at it now if I had to watch it again, but that was some good nightmare fuel for a youngin’.

It’s Cronenberg week, and I have The Fly, Scanners, Rabid, The Brood and Videodrome on the list. I love The Fly but actually haven’t seen many other of his movies. Any others that y’all think I should try to squeeze in this week?
Naked Lunch.
The dead zone.

The sense of dread when watching The Strangers is on another level. Every. Single. Time. Adding along watching it alone at nighttime to maximize the paranoia of a home invasion. fukk, I love this movie so much. :wow:
The simple chilling explanation for their demonic FUKKERY stayed with me for awhile:picard::wow:

October 4th: Black As Night

A premise with promise that is never fully realized but still is an OK time waster for this spooky season.
I liked the vampire mythology that was created for this movie, thought the New Orleans locale a smart choice, the use of Katrina's effects as a backdrop for the main plot was a cool idea, and am always down for an appearance by Keith David.
However they underutilized Mr. David, the lead actress was a bit miscast and the core group of young characters were all pretty unlikable.
Also I thought up at least 10 different ways that the lead character would be invested in becoming a vampire hunter that didn't include her mom being a crackhead...that was an awful plot point to include in this movie.

I give Black As Night 2 out of 4 Gun Totin' Dr. Loomis'
