Hyde Park is an island so to speak, surrounded by worser areas. Granted the university and museum are there and its safer thab its surroundings but getting there... yeah.

I'll say that technically not ALL of the south side is bad but you get my point. There's just a line to where almost anything is bad anywhere on the south side.

Chicago police are searching today for a 41-year-old woman and her two daughters, ages 19 and 1, who went missing last Tuesday from the city's Brighton Park neighborhood.

An 18-year-old Chicago man fired into a crowd outside a home on the South Side on Thursday night, wounding five people before fleeing directly into the hands of officers, authorities said.

William Stovall wounded a 16-year-old girl and four others around 11 p.m. Thursday when he opened fire on the group in the 6300 block of South Wolcott Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, according to a police report.

On Sunday, Cook County Judge Laura Marie Sullivan ordered him held on $150,000 bond on a charge of aggravated discharge of a gun.

Two people were wounded within minutes of each other this evening in separate shootings in the city's Englewood and West Englewood neighborhoods.

The first shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. on the 6300 block of South Union Street, said Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

Preliminary reports stated a man in his 20s was shot in his side and taken to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.
