Imam ticking over, awaits decision on Crawford or Postol title shot

Amir Imam 19-1-0 (16 KO's) returned to the gym a few weeks ago.

The “Young Master” super lightweight prospect rated #1 contender at the WBC ranking inside the 140 pound weight class, continues to train and waits for the decision to be made by current WBC champion Terence Crawford.

Imam, along with his team led by Stacy McKinley, work day by day at The Heavyweight Factory in Hollywood, Fla., pending the announcement of Crawford.

Super-lightweight king Crawford is reportedly planning to rise to welterweight and would leave his title vacant.

"We are at GYM once again; I still haven’t a date for the next fight. However, that is not my job, I'm here at the GYM getting ready for when my team tells me to go up and fight," Imam said.

"Boxing is a sport where you lose and win, obviously the defeat with Granados affected me, but that is already in the past and we must move forward. Sometimes, you learn more from defeats than from victories," added Amir.

For his part, Coach McKinley believes that Amir has many opportunities to get a world title as super light or welter.

"Amir is young yet, he has the quality and talent to achieve his goals. As #1 contender in the WBC ranking, he has the opportunity to fight against Postol which is the #2 if Crawford vacates his title."

We will be watching Crawford's moves, we are already here in the GYM training to get 100% physically. For now, the job is to maintain the Imam condition, when we have defined the next fight and against whom he will raise to the ring, we will design a fight plan with more details," Stacy said.

After watching Joshua hit the canvas, Ortiz is even more confident that he will stop the 2012 Olympic gold medalist.

"I feel more than ever that I will ko Joshua within 8 rounds - but I also feel that after Klitschko dropped Joshua with one punch that Eddie Hearn will never let Joshua get in the ring with me. To me Klitschko let him off the hook. I wouldn't have. I would have had him out of there in that 6th round," said Ortiz to BoxingScene.com.

"Look, it's simple. Eddie will protect his cash cow. You heard it yourself, how Joshua didn't mention my name knowing I'm next for him but he called out [Tyson] Fury after fight. I saw weakness. I saw a fighter that can be dropped with one punch. I even say he got lucky they stopped the fight because he wasn't even landing a punch when it got stopped. If they wouldn't have stopped it he was gassed out again - plain and simple."

The Cuban southpaw hopes to face Joshua in the fall and hopes that the Brit honors his mandatory status. Ortiz said that regardless of what Joshua does he expects to fight for the WBA title before the year is over.

"I congratulate the young man for courage but I'm next and that is that. Look, my team let that fight happen because the WBA and Eddie Hearn asked us for a favor and because Klitschko didn't want to fight me but I'm done being pushed back. It's my time and I want my WBA belt so yeah I'm calling Joshua out. If he likes he can just give up the belt but if not then October or November sounds good to me so it's your move boy. To be the best you have to fight the best," Ortiz told BoxingScene.com.

There's a line for Joshua right now:

  1. Wladimir Klitschko rematch
  2. Luis Ortiz (mandatory)
  3. Tyson Fury (voluntary)
  4. Deontay Wilder

All searching for him. His next moves will be interesting.
Ortiz is the mandatory, he should be first in line.

But I have a feeling Femi would drop the WBA belt if Wlad wants a rematch, as that's more profitable.

The ball is kinda in Klitschko's court, I just hope he doesn't pull not bullshyt like he did with Fury :manny:

That round 5 was fire. Watching it live was great.
AJ better be careful next time because he was out of gas with 1:45 left in that round though. Going hard like that was super careless in retrospect. Also, after the live, I thought Wlad didn't try to go for the kill in round 6 but I forgot he kept trying to take Joshua's head off with that left hook. If he didn't phone it from Mars he may have managed to KO AJ. But AJ showed good upper body movement and kept ducking below. Maybe Wlad should have tried leading with the uppercut once ot twice :ohhh:

Wlad never set up the left hook either, he just hit the X button over and over, and was surpised why it didn't land as much as usual. He looked like AB vs Porter with the way he was spamming that left hook and missing:heh:

Yeah that was disappointing from him, I don't think he managed to connect one of those he led with. It's as if he thought AJ was as stiff as Pulev and that he would have eventually connected at some point :lolbron:

Banks has really let down Wlad in these last two fights.
How so in this fight? Versus Fury I could see, because Wlad looked completely gun shy and I don't think he was scared, he just didn't know what to do.
Versus Joshua I thought Wlad looked very good overall. He should have been a bit more active early on. The middle rounds he was terrific. The two punches that really hurt him were early in the rounds and his concentration may have been a bit off. Overall I thought Wlad's strategy to move around worked really well...he just doesn't have super active hands.

I would say that it was a good point posted above, one that I noticed during the fight, is that Wlad wasn't able to wear Joshua down at in clinches. I wonder if it was because Joshua was bigger and stronger or by design because Wlad was looking to fight more from the outside and didn't do a lot of inside work.

Just my opinion, but I don't think strategy let Wlad down. He did great. He was fighting a young bull and the couple of times where Joshua really landed cleanly was enough to win the fight, but outside of that it was highly competitive and a great battle.

The only thing I felt Wlad did wrong, was not try to finish AJ after he dropped him. Dude looked about done and just needed another good shot or two. A guy like Trinidad would have been all over AJ.

Joshua's body work was also good. Even though he didn't go crazy with it, he had some effective moments with it.

Definitely wouldn't mind a rematch.

He didn't work the body after literally seeing Joshua huffing & puffing......not once did Wlad throw a jab, hook, or even uppercut during the clinch to Joshua's body.

He already had suspect stamina, but this man was dead tired infront of you, and obviously avoiding these sweeping left hooks at this point, Banks should've told Wlad to touch his body to speed up his descent into Ugonoh territory.

That's what I fault Banks for. Other than that, everything else was cool. Just the absolute disrespect for body work allowed Joshua to get a 2nd wind, and finish his assault later in the fight.
