By Jake Donovan
Cesar Barrionuevo stormed to the next stage of the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight tournament after tearing through Azael Cosio in five lopsided rounds Saturday evening in Guererro, Mexico.
Five knockdowns came of the night, which ended with Cosio flat on his back and ruled unfit to continue at 2:55 of round five.
Barrionuevo had never previously fought outside of his native Argentina, nor had his level of competition suggested he was ready to move within a couple of wins towards a first career title shot. The southpaw - who turns 27 in February - had Cosio in trouble in the opening round, never looking back following the first time he's floored an opponent.
The violent end came in the closing seconds of round five, Cosio positioned as if to prepare to move towards his corner. Barrioneuvo made a point to punch through his target, landing a savage left hook to put Cosio down and out.
Barrionuevo improves to 30-3-2, 20KOs), also moving up the social ladder. Cosio falls to 20-3-1 (17KOs).

I really think we are going to get Amir Khan vs Victor Ortiz
Victor Ortiz has been managed poorly.
The guy who has managed his career the best after a lost in this era is Paulie Malignaggi.
He looked like he was done after he lost to Khan. He spent like 2 years staying active & getting his shyt together. I remember around that time he said he wanted to worked the European circuit & get a European title. I remember thinking at the time this was a brilliant idea. Stay active, work on your craft, & win a lower tier title. If you can't win that title, your done for sure. He eventually abandoned the idea & jumped on the Broner fight.
In Paulie's last fight, he won the European Union Welterweight title, which means he decided to go back to that plan.
The whole "tuneup, big fight" plan Ortiz & most of these guys are on does not work.
Exactly. First he quit vs Chino. Quit vs Floyd, got his sternum and jaw broke by Josesito (moving up from 140 ) Quit vs. Collazofukk ortiz..he was giving so many chances..
@LauderdaleBoss
byrd - rounds 6,7,8,9,11,12
mccline - rounds 1,2,3,4,5,10
byrd going down in round 2 gives mccline the fight 114-113 on my card
byrd dropped alot of the early rounds to me but stormed back by mid fight..round 10 was a difficult round to score..i gave it to mccline on activity but i can also see it as a 10-10 round, which would make it a 114-114 draw...but last couple rounds byrd let it all hang out and finished strong
overall an entertaining fight to rewatch before breakfast lol
