Virgil Hunter was dismayed by what he saw last night at the Chavez-Vera fight, not only by what happened in the ring and on our TV sets, but by what he saw happening near the judges at ringside during the fight.
Last night's controversy may get even more controversial if these comments from trainer Virgil Hunter go anywhere, which they probably will not. But don't ignore this: Virgil Hunter has no reason to say any of this for his own benefit, and no reason to try and tear down the Chavez or Top Rank teams, or anything of that nature.
When asked by Chris Robinson of HustleBoss.com what he thought of last night's Chavez-Vera fight, which Chavez won via highly questionable decision, Hunter first said what everyone was thinking -- that it's a shame Vera bothered to try so hard since it didn't matter -- and also said he saw some suspicious activity by the judges at ringside.
"It's sad, man. I mean, really sad. I thought Vera won the fight convincingly. What can you say? He outhustled him, he outworked him. Junior threw one punch at a time. I gave Junior the last round. That was his biggest round. It's sad, man. I feel sorry for Vera and Ronnie (Shields) and everybody," Shields said.
"Look, you work hard, make all these sacrifices, take all this punishment in camp. The money, the name and all this stuff, is gonna speak. It's unfortunate. So when you hear these people saying, 'boxing is this, boxing is that,' they're right, man. They're right."
He continued, "I saw some things going on around the ring. I don't even wanna discuss it. Made me wanna puke. I saw some people standing over the judges. It was unbelievable to me. I don't wanna discuss it. I don't want to get into that, because I'm in the sport. My heart goes out to Bryan Vera."
anyone think anything of Virgil Hunter talking about the judges?

“The Pittsburgh Kid,” undefeated former world champion Paul Spadafora (48-0-1, 19 KOs) will likely take on Johan “El Terrible” Perez (17-1-1, 12 KOs) on November 30th for the WBA’s interim championship at welterweight. The fight will top a Golden Boy Promotions card at the Mountaineer Casino in Chester, West Virginia, site of Spadafora’s last three outings. No TV details announced yet.
There is speculation that fight could lead to Golden Boy Promotions bringing Spadafora into the fold as a possible undefeated opponent for Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Several years ago there was a sparring session between Spadafora and Mayweather in which Spadafora got the better of it. Also Spadafora’s undefeated streak is longer than Floyd’s, so there are multiple story lines.
its funny because I was thinking about this....the only thing is, Spady waited too long to get back in the picture...he needs a high profile win. also....I saw that sparring session with Floyd. think it was his first day back in the gym...and this is when he was fighting at a lower weight and wasnt really in top fighting form.
that sparring session means absolutely shyt.
i welcome that too.HBO wants Stevenson vs. Kovalev

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr had his hands full with Brian Vera Saturday night but he also had a battle before he stepped in the ring with the weight scale. The fight with Vera was originally contracted at a catch weight of 162 pounds and then upped a second time to the super middleweight limit of 168. That still wasn’t enough as the fight was ultimately adjusted a third time with the final weight being 173 pounds.
Leading up to the fight with Vera, Chavez made it clear he could still make 160 pounds and would fight there again should the right meaningful fight present itself. After seeing him have trouble to even meet the 168 pound limit, it’s become obvious the days of Chavez fighting at 160 pounds are over, right?
Well according to Chavez himself, he still believes he can still get down to 160 if he really had to for the right fight.
“No, every time it’s hard to make 160 but I can make that weight. Its hard work but I would [make] the sacrifice for the title. Maybe I’ll fight at 168 too. Today I felt very good. I felt my legs more healthy. My legs were very good, felt much better also with my movement” Chavez would tell BoxingScene.
With a Vera match out of the question, Chavez still has plenty of options awaiting him at 168 and even 160 should he choose to go that route. Chavez would like to get right back into the ring after his layoff and fight in December if his injury to his right hand permits.
Ultimately, the weight he fights at will all depend on the opponents who are presented to him.
“It all depends on the offers that are there. I’m open to fight whoever. A fight for a title at 160 or whatever my promoter presents to us. [A fight with Andre Ward], I want to face the best” said Chavez.
Please make 160 and fight GGG or schedule Ward at 168. It is the ass kicking you deserve Jr.
