Moonlight was a good movie, I know the DP on it.

It's catching strays cause it's part of a larger conversation that's BEEN going on about Hollywood.

The effeminization of the black male on screen, the abundance of Poverty porn and the general backlash to seing blacks on screen in a positive light.

If you wanna play dumb then fine but I've seen it with my own eyes working in Hollywood and in journalism.

If your a black male you simply won't get the same opportunities unless you come off as gay and non threading and are willing to push that agenda.

This has been going on and the results are starting to show in the youth culture.

I'm all for movies that tackle gay issues or poverty issues but does that have to be the only thing we can get rewarded for?

Oh And a lot of gay people didn't even like moonlight cause it seemed unreleastic.

Since you've got an ear to the streets let me ask you this breh: do you run into a lot of black writers and directors and producers or is it all actors? For me, changing the things you're talking about start behind the camera

It's not as easy as you think to get projects off the ground and it's not like you can go an NBA player or Oprah every time you want a project made.

What happened to Nate Parker was saddning and probably scared a lot of people from investing in similar projects.

But try to make the next precious and you'll get grants up the ass.

Oh of course it aint easy breh i was just asking out of curiosity. Funding, writing, producing, all of that is tough. Townsend has the right idea but not everyone can or should go that route

you watched this movie and thought the male characters were stripped of their masculinity?

Idk how you watched this movie and thought that.

I think a lot of our homophobic brothers think being gay means you a woman. Just not close to true, it just means you like men. Chron was not emasculated at all in this movie.

Here is the thing tho. Every time a black man or women in filmmaking becomes X successful that person automatic becomes a c00n in eyes of endless of posters here. Everytime a black film is made and talked about here the self proclaimed Support only black people nuts come out and find fault in something before seeing it.

"X is playing a crossdresser, what a faq"
"Great, another slave movie for white people"
"Man, this shyt is corny"
"fukk this homo shyt"
"A white jew owns the production company and all the actors are c00ns dancing to the beat"
"oh so you a butler in this movie? yes massa, yes massa"

Unless the film is about a group of black people getting even with a white person for some reason and the main actor is never shown to be weak. If Denzel would make a film more loved then The Godfather playing a transgender person The Coli would in large never forgive Denzel. Make anything risky and you'll get a stigma for life.

You're playing dumb or you've never read any black feminists review of this film saying it combats toxic masculinity lol and that every black boy needs to see this.

Im not going to go back and fourth on this.... you choose to remain oblivious or ignorant.

Question tho.... Why did Chiron go from being a tough little kid to a teen thats scared of his shadow lol? Wouldnt having a mentor like Juan produce the opposite effect?

:mjlol: Viola literally has a :dahell: face.

If a person still doesn't understand the concept of white privilege, all they have to do is look at the year Nate Parker and Casey Affkeck had.

Both accused of sexual misconduct/assault. One is essentially blacklisted despite not being found guilty in court. The other wins one of Hollywood's most prestigious awards despite not showing any remorse or taking any responsibility for it :francis:
