I keep putting off watching American Sniper just because of how huge a piece of shyt lying douchebag Chris Kyle was in real life and the idea of a sanitized version of the man put on screen to look like some sort of American Hero is just distasteful to me.
If Eastwood and Cooper had made a movie about the real severely flawed Chris Kyle I think they would have had a more appealing film.
i hear ya, but i'm making my dad pay for the tickets :win:

American Sniper is not good. Cooper was good but the screenplay was awful. I can't believe it was nominated for Screenplay and Best Picture. Actually, I can believe it. That fukking agenda. Terrible.

Fincher should have picked up a nom for Gone Girl, Best Director, he was snubbed and How the fukk did Gone Girl not have a Best Cinematography nom? :what:

 Post is my hometown paper and a bastion of liberal values. That's an op-ed written by a member of LBJ's staff. The Post' film critic has had nothing but praise for Selma and I believe someone else who writes for it calls it the most important movie to come along in a long time

Hornaday?

And here's a defense of the movie

I still need to see Selma but I'm sure it was better directed than The Imitation Game which somehow is one of the 5 best directed movies of the year :mindblown:

Is the Imitation Game really better directed than Gone Girl?, Whiplash? Inherent Vice?

Also that actor in a leading role category is a fukking travesty this year. Again, I haven't seen Selma yet but how can you not nominate Jake Gyllenhaal :damn:

Cooper and Cumberbatch :scusthov: And Carrell... let's be honest that role was a bit over the top.

The backlash toward Selma was overblown and stupid.
None of the movies inspired by true events were 100% accurate.
The Schultz Brothers never lived on DuPont's property at the same time as was shown in Foxcatcher.
The homosexuality of the lead character in the Imitation Game was a blip on the screen.
American Sniper is based on a book that was likely 60-70% lies.

I said this in another thread, but that movie could have been GREAT rather than just good if they had gone deeper into this.

as one review i read said he was an "intellectual asexual" for most of the movie..then its like..oh yea im gay.

edit: and agreed with @g-ice da gawd as usual.. cumberbatch was great in it

Also dope that Alexandre Desplat got a nom for Grand Budapest score. Thought he killed it.
