I've seen Ida and Leviathan and would rate both 3.5/5, although Ida had me leaning towards a 4/5 as well. Leviathan is pretty much the umpteenth modern take on the Book of Job, and probably owns a lot of its hype due to its heavy criticism of the Russian government and focus on corruption. Ida has a straight forward story that's littered with subtleties, but most of its credit goes to beautiful imagery and the smart choice to film it in a very tight 4:3 aspect ratio.

This. Only, I would give Ida a solid 4.5 out of 5.

College Humor plummed the depths of their creativity to come up with the "honest versions" of this year's crop of Oscar nominees.

The best ones are below, but you can go to the source if you don't trust my taste.

Jake Gyllenhaal is the biggest snub in my opinion. He put out a better performance than all five of the actors nominated. I guess he will have to take it up the ass again like he did in Brokeback Mountain in order to get nominated again.

That hashtag gets a meh from me, a meh I tells ya.

While it is most likely a fact that some powers in Hollywood are racist, marking the entire industry as such is foolish. People that aren't racist are being pressured into voting against their believe to avoid being labeled something they are not. It all comes down to the wallet. If you really care more about the race issue then the art it self, and I can fully understand that viewpoint, look to the indie and foreign scene and support them. Sure they may not all be great but it may help in the long run.

Well that was interesting. I see quite a few a listers will not even show up to the oscars this year
I am extremely disappointed in the nominations this year. Let me count the ways:

1)Bradley Cooper over David Oyelowo is a disgrace. A fukking disgrace.

2)No Jake Gyllenhaal. Ridiculous. I knew Nightcrawler had no shot at a Best Pic nod (its too dark), but to not have Jake nominated is stupid.

3)The lack of black people and women that were nominated...this is the whitest Oscars in a long ass time

4)A Most Violent Year got snubbed across the board and it is a great movie. I was thinking atleast Jessica Chastain for best actress.

5)No David Fincher for directing nom. Disgusting.

6)Did I mention that David Oyelowo was not nominated? Are you fukking kidding me?????

7)The LEGO movie getting snubbed.

I know its political, but the Oscars went fukking nuts this year and the show will suffer greatly now.

If not for the film room fukkery, I wouldn't watch. I agree on all points. Even though I knew Fincher wouldn't get a nod, he should've. Just watched Gone Girl again last night and it's better the 2nd time. And they're rightfully getting killed by damn near every publication for the lack of diversity this year. Like getting raked over the coals and not just by the brothers and sisters

Exactly. We all know Boyhood is gonna get best pic and best director, and Keaton will get best actor and Simmons will get best supporting actor, so the rest of the categories are not much fun to me now.
