Forget the Oscars cause we all know it's a political campaign. For us to have a dent at the box office we need to stop having hollywood keep us in the "Slave Movie, Civil Rights Movie, Comedy/acting a fool" Box. We need other genre's and other types of films. I'm all for us having more historical films but that shouldn't be the only films we put out. It's clear Hollywood has lied about people not waiting to see Blacks as you broke down the success of recent television shows. But we have to get behind the camera. How many Black screenwriters are working in hollywood? We just saw some Mexican brothas pull it off but we all know you can probably count on one hand. The problem is so many Blacks are focused on getting in front of the Camera when the true power is behind the camera, Writers, Driectors, Producers.

Breh if you go see the dope movies that are out, you get more dope movies...period. Look at my uncle buck example. A network isn't going to turn uncle buck into a soap opera like Empire but because of empire's success, they're going to make it an all black cast. The only thing it and Empire will have in common is skin complexion but that's it. The way you get diversity if you can't get on the inside is to support what's on the outside when it's of a certain quality and not just anything they throw at us that looks like it's funny or has Tyler Perry's name on it..and I'm going to stop kicking dirt on him because he was incredible in Gone Girl so I owe him a bit of a reprieve

BS African!!! When was the last time an 100 million dollar movie got ignored?

What are you talking about? There's never been a Historical Black Drama that gross 100 Million at the United States Box Office. "Will Smith's Ali" didn't gross 100 Million, "Ray" didn't, "Malcolm X" didn't. It's never happen. It's easy to say "Blacks didn't show up" but let's be real, those movies didn't even have the proper whites show up or other races. Like someone posted, "Martin Luther King" is American History not just Black history. Actually the closes was "The Color Purple" and that has Steven Spielberg behind the lense. Even his "Amistad" didn't gross that much. Let's keep it real. White people just don't support these movies. The reason they made the money they did is cause of Black folk. The fact is we are going to have to work outside the Hollywood system to have our stories truely told. Or we have to bring Hollywood to us.

But I said 100 million dollar movie period. They never get ignored. Of course what you say is true, but vote with your feet. Was it released at a bad time? Yea. But other black movies where out at that time too and they made more money. We didn't show up.

fukk the Oscars I just want black Hollywood back. I miss the days of Dead Presidents, Love Jones, Menace 2 Society, Above The Rim & etc. The truth is black celebrities would rather go to white shows and be ignored than go to black shows and be honored.

And I won't even say "white people don't support these movies" cause I saw plenty a white person in the theater on the day after Christmas going to see Selma and plenty the second time I went to see it. But black people can move a movie to 60 mil or 90 or 100 and if anyone doesn't think we have that kinda purchasing power theyre crazy.

You know what all those movies have in common? We were either directing or writing those movies. Again BEHIND THE CAMERA. That is the key to the puzzle. Stop trying to BE in the movie and make the damn movie like we did in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Nah. Just wasn't as compelling a performance. And Redmayne is one of my top actors, but Keaton was better.

from a technical standpoint Redmayne was head and shoulders better than everyone else

he's actually transforming throughout the film

I couldn't be happier. Boyhood and American Sniper shut out of the major awards.

fukk gimmicks.

fukk Chris Kyle.

Funny, when Birdman was also a gimmick. It's only praised due to two things: impeccable acting, but moreso because 98% of the film was made to look like it was one long take, which is INDEED a gimmick.

Another.... Have anyone stopped and think that TOP FIVE & BIRDMAN is virtually the same movie? The entire premise, the characters, NYC... all basically the same.

No I got your point but let's not act like it was all is behind the camera. Same guy who directed that co created fresh prince. And to your larger point, people really want to be famous now man and the fame for most comes from in front of the camera not the back of it. It sucks but that's the mindset
