But he hasn't signed anybody that's a major difference maker. :dahell:

The only notable addition was trading for Burnes, who it looks like they're gonna let walk.

All their young guys are under team control for years. Gunnar isn't a free agent until 2029. All their key players are cheap right now. This is exactly the time to splurge in free agency.
Gunnar's a Boras client.

it's Manny Machado all over again except the window is better for the O's. They are either going to have to strike and pay early, or let Boras set the terms that if you hold him until he's a FA we're are going to fukk you.

I don't see why they can't plan to sign him. Drives me fukking nuts with these cheap ass teams. Plan to pay Gunnar $40-50 million a year and work around that.

Right now, they're due to pay that old Japanese pitcher, Tyler O'Neill and Gary Sanchez $38 million between them. What's a better deal? Paying these JAGs or an elite player like Gunnar? Those three guys are replaceable; Gunnar is not.

not re-signing Gunnar or not trading/planning for Jackson long term. Is the bullshyt the Angelos would do. Rubenstein is suppose to be different. Not to mention locking up Adley and Grayson. Spend your money, build your fukkin team. There is only so long. Hell even keeping Kreamer/Bautista/Cano is going to cost some money or trades. Think about what is going to win or compete for the got damn world series trophy.

Anything else is asinine.

The Pitcherlist guy might be spicing up the story.

But there isn't any reason the O's shouldn't have been a player for Burnes/Fried/or Snell.

I get they like hoarding their farm. Cause you can't always guarantee the trades play out. Like right now the Trevor Rogers deal is still looking sketch as fukk. Even though Norby and Stowers were blocked they pulled the trigger and it may have backfired. But the Eflin deal turned out better than expected. I'm not sold on what Crochet was worth, but it makes me better understand the things teams want for arms. The O's probably should've sold Jackson et. al for Skubal. I still think Jackson is likely going to be a superstar, but holding him when he probably has lost value for the long haul may be a long term net negative. If it meant having control over Skubal and the ability to re-sign Burnes. And stack money for Gunnar you gotta make the deal.
Let's wait until spring training to roast him I guess. There's still a lot of off season. But the article's premise is basically using a quote from the owner that wasn't in relation to the GM and then some conjecture about the GMs preferences on how to build a roster. It's not concrete enough to say the GM is fukkin' up.

They should post the sum total of payroll over those 15 seasons.

That Yankees 56.5 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays is less impressive when you've out-spent them by a billion dollars or whatever it is.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to the Mets in the Wilpon era.
I vaguely recall that the Bernie Madoff fraud hurt the Wilpons a lot.
Then if you're talking about the post-2008 financial crisis, it's a little hard to blame most teams for limiting their spending in those years.

The Wilpons just refused to invest in the team in the 2010s and set us years back, my goodness.
Just a straight up refusal to compete, smh.

The 2010 opening day lineup still lives in my head:

Alex Cora
Luis Castillo
Wright
Mike Jacobs
Jason Bay
Gary Mathews
Jeff Francouer
Rod Barajas

The Captain deserved better than that. Man broke his back carrying those bums

And because Bud was their mans, he let them continue to own the team instead of getting them up out the paint. :scust:

Am I confused, or wasn’t Cohen one of the few that came up on that Madoff shyt? :jbhmm:

If so.. imagine stealing money from a family, only to buy their team from right under their new noses.. with their own money :dead:

Cohen’s the ultimate hustler.

Don't remember if he was eating due to Madoff, I didn't necessarily hear his name tied to it. Figure as much vetting as they do they would have come up with something if he was linked to him.

I don't have any clue what he said but I want all broadcasters in 2025 to be Japanese.

Whatever he said sounded exciting.
