Definitely the best route if you want to expand.@Billy Hoyle @Ed MOTHERfukkING G @Silkk
A 6-seed playoff makes the most sense to me.
The top 2 seeds get a bye. Seeds 3 & 4 hosts the first round at their home stadium against 5 & 6 the week after the conf championship games. Both teams are awarded $1 million for the 1st round games and most stadiums should be near full (not many fans will be on winter vacation just yet and exams will be the week after). Also stadiums aren't in much use in the beginning to mid December. The losers of each game will be picked up by the NYear bowls, accordingly.
This gives the each Power 5 champion a virtual spot and a group of 5 team a spot (if they finish top 6).
This is how it would look with the current rankings:
Dec 10th
#3 Michigan v #6 Ohio State - Michigan Stadium
#4 Texas A&M v #5 Washington - Kyle Field
Dec 31st
Fiesta Bowl
#2 Clemson V Texas A&M/Washington
Peach Bowl
#1 Alabama v Ohio State/Michigan

Twenty team conferences, ten team divisions, So, every team faces their 9 opponents in division, 2 opponents in the other division, and 1 out of conference. That should fix any cross division, OOC rivalry breakups.
The conference championship games are held on New years day, round of 4 after that, title game after that.
EVERYTHING is decided on the field with the exception of the seeding, which keeps the poll system SOMEWHAT relevant...

These teams are going to have to be divided evenly in order to make that 4 superconference grouping work. Florida, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, TAMU, Arkansas, Georgia, and Ole Miss are not going to be able to be in the same conference. That's 40% of the top 25 programs and you're going to have to make it so that only 25% of the top 25 are in each conference.
That's gonna piss people off. As an Auburn fan, I'd be furious about not playing any of those teams. I was already pissed about bringing TAMU and Mizzou because it means that we now play Florida and Tennessee once every eight years.
I'm all over Arkansas +5 at home vs Florida
Like Northwestern +7 at home vs Wisconsin
Bet the mortgage on Kentucky +2.5 at home vs crummy UGA
I don't care if Alberto Del Rio is better than Treon, Florida's offense still concerns me.
Florida hasn't played an offense worth shyt since UT I think Arkansas might win straight up even though they D is ass this might lowkey be one of the best games of weekend too bad its a night game.
That's an absolutely ridiculous argument...I almost want to stop here. It's not though. You have twenty teams in each conference. They all can't play each other.
This is how all sports works. You face your division, you face a small amount of out of division and conference foes, you play a playoffs and a championship....because you played your way there. What do you want? An imaginary paper champion like exists now? A 128 team rou d robin that never ends? Or conference champs who face each other?Just one division of the southern conference could have possibly 6 of the best teams in the nation while the entire eastern conference could be complete dogshyt on any given season. We aren't all that far away from every single one of those teams being mediocre.
People would be bytching constantly about it. FSU could play one hard game the entire season and then come into the playoffs fresh as fukk while Bama just went through seven layers of hell getting to the playoffs.
Again, if you want to do this in a manner that balances the difficulty of each division, you've got to throw geography out the window. And in doing so you'll have to break up a ton of rivalries.

Plus you minimize the amount 16 game schedules to 4 teams which will be rewarded monetarily along with a chance at a championship. I think most teams will take that chance.Definitely the best route if you want to expand.
