:whew: McKenzie trimming down the fat. Palmer, Seymour, Kelly, Huff, DHB all gone. Now just cut or find a sucker that wants McClain. :obama: Perfect offseason job he has done, and now there is a direction with this rebuild.

Matt Flynn trade rumors: If deal falls through, Raiders like Kevin Kolb - SBNation.com

Matt Flynn trade rumors: If deal falls through, Raiders like Kevin Kolb

The Raiders can go a few different ways if a rumored trade for Seattle QB Matt Flynn doesn't work out. One of them is free agent QB Kevin Kolb, according to a report.

With the Seahawks and Raiders allegedly close to a deal that would send back-up quarterback Matt Flynn to Oakland in exchange for draft picks, it would seem Oakland is done with quarterback Carson Palmer.

If further proof is needed of an impending Raiders/Palmer divorce, a report from Adam Caplan that former Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb is drawing the interest of the Raiders should solidify it.

More: Matt Flynn rumors Bills interested in Kolb Raiders should let Palmer go
Kolb was released by Arizona March 15, ending a largely underwhelming stint in the desert. He played in 16 games over two seasons, throwing 11 touchdown passes and nine interceptions.

Buffalo is also said to be interested in Kolb, who could be brought in to compete with Tarvaris Jackson in the wake of the team's release of Ryan Fitzpatrick this offseason.

But the Raiders are apparently considering Kolb to be a Plan B option in what seems to be the unlikely event the trade for Flynn falls through. Needless to say, he'd fit in well with the underwhelming quarterbacks of the past and present in Buffalo.

Not that the situation in Oakland would dramatically improved with Kolb over Palmer, even if the current starter isn't going to budge on his $13 million salary to play for the Raiders. Silver and Black Pride's Marcus Allen Krause thinks releasing Palmer would pave a path for Terrelle Pryor, who essentially redshirted the 2012 season after Oakland took him in the 2011 Supplemental Draft.

If nothing else, the options are creative in Oakland.

Raiders pitting Carson Palmer vs Matt Flynn in game of 'who wants it more?'

The Raiders have a situation on their hands at quarterback. Right now it's a matter of keeping Carson Palmer or trading for Matt Flynn.

After today, no one can claim Reggie McKenzie isn't savvy. Yesterday Carson Palmer had great leverage in his stance against taking a pay cut. Today, he had the tables turned on him with a decisive move to work out a deal to bring in Matt Flynn in a trade with the Seahawks.

It doesn't stop there. The Raiders also want Flynn to re-work his contract. Word is Flynn's camp, like Palmer's camp, is not too keen on the idea. This means the Raiders can now let Carson Palmer and Matt Flynn decide who wants it more.

The deal is said to be finalized as far as the compensation. It just needs the Raiders to sign off on it. There is no real rush to get it done today or even tomorrow from the Raiders standpoint. Reggie has made his move. It's up to Flynn and/or Palmer what happens now.

If it were as simple as the Raiders wanting to replace Palmer, it would have been done. But that's not the ultimate hope. The first hope has always been to get Palmer to take a pay cut to remain the Raiders starting quarterback. Recent reports have been that they asked for him to lower his cap figure by $3 million which would bring his base salary down to $10 million this season. These reports have been disputed but let's just go with that for now.

Flynn is scheduled to make $5.2 million in base salary. There is no word on what kind of figure he has been asked to come down to. The Raiders may not have even asked for a specific figure but instead left it in the hands of Flynn's agent to come up with something.

Coming to the Raiders would be an attractive option for Flynn who is stuck behind Russell Wilson up in Seattle. Wilson had a monster rookie season, taking the Seahawks to the playoffs. A trade to Oakland would be the fresh start he had hoped he would have when he went to Seattle last off-season after four seasons as the backup to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.

Flynn's cheaper than Palmer but he is relatively unproven and would require draft picks to be sent to Seattle. Word is the deal worked out would be for a low round pick in the 2013 draft and a conditional pick in 2014. Also, this would mean cutting Palmer and the dead money plus Flynn's salary would be about the same as the team currently pays Palmer. If they make this deal, they would like to get some cap relief in the process.

Palmer, despite reports that suggest he wants to leave the team, has never said anything of the sort. The idea that he is willing to play as a backup rather than take a pay cut is just the kind of thing his agent, David Dunn, would say to rush the Raiders to either cut his client and allow him to find a new team, or keep him at his current salary. But the Raiders want that cap relief right now so they can sign more free agents. It is time to test their resolve.

Whether Palmer sees better options as a free agent remains to be seen. But he knows he will not receive a deal elsewhere near as good as the $10 million the Raiders are reportedly offering. Plus at 33 years old, starting over again and finding a team who wants him as a starter is not ideal. So, he has a real decision to make.

Whichever player (or his agent) comes back to the Raiders with a deal they accept will be the Raiders quarterback. It is hard to say what the team would do should neither budge on their contract demands. The Raiders are hoping it doesn't come to that.

Either way, this move puts the Raiders in a much better negotiating position.

Trade for Matt Flynn could be best for Terrelle Pryor - Silver And Black Pride

Trade for Matt Flynn could be best for Terrelle Pryor

Many people were thinking that a trade for Matt Flynn would be detrimental to Terrelle Pryor's development. In some ways this could be true in other ways it couldn't be farther away from fact. A trade for Matt Flynn could actually be the best thing for Terrelle Pryor.

If the Raiders pull the trigger on the trade that would bring Matt Flynn to Oakland from Seattle it would signal the end for Carson Palmer in Raiders gear. Many people believe that if the trade is made that it is a sign that the Raiders do not have Pryor in their future plans and that he will lose ground on the progress he has made but how accurate is that thought process?

The removal of Carson from the Raiders locker room could actually help Pryor and open a door for him to get where he wants to be, which is the starter. Matt Flynn would be brought in with the assumption that he will win the starting job, but just like in Seattle that would be the assumption and not guaranteed fact.

The truth is if Carson is in town then Pryor will have no shot at starting. He knows this and is willing to accept the position of back up and soaking in the knowledge from a grizzled veteran like Palmer. If Carson were to be removed and Flynn added in his stead it would open up the door for a QB competition that would be similar to the one that Matt Flynn just went through (and lost) in Seattle against Russell Wilson.

I am firmly entrenched in Matt Flynn's camp with the belief that he would win that competition and be the starter for the Raiders in 2013 but it absolutely is not set in stone. I believe Flynn would win the competition but he would have to earn it against Pryor. If he did not and Pryor won then Terrelle would have earned the position and I would be fine with that as well.

If you thought that Terrelle Pryor would be against these happenings you might be surprised by his response. He has the confidence and he has the ambition to compete for the starting job and he would embrace the challenge.

Terrelle Pryor ‏@TerrellePryor
I LOVE to COMPETE ! Whatever makes us better ! Stay patient! *RT @karlitos_guey: @TerrellePryor what's your take on this trade talk TP.

Not only does Pryor say that he LOVES competition and would embrace the challenge but he wouldn't just embrace it he would sincerely welcome the chance to win the starting job. He is confident in himself but its doubtful that he would feel that he was in a true QB competition for the starting job with Palmer. However, bring in an unproven player like Matt Flynn and all bets are off for the young QB out of Ohio St University.

Bring in the competition for Pryor and it might just end up being the best thing for his career. If he competes well he could win the starting job and if he doesn't win the starting job he could put himself on another team's radar as a potential starter.

Pryor is an intriguing prospect and has shown flashes of playmaking ability. Those flashes are going to have to start coming more often if he wants to win the starting job for the Raiders because Matt Flynn is going to come in ready to be the starter.

Pryor supporters are not fond of the idea of adding Flynn but if it gives him more of a chance to become the starter they believe he is then they should embrace the chance for him to compete against Matt for the starting spot. Bringing in Flynn certainly gives Pryor more of a chance to win the starting job then keeping Palmer and his $13M salary would.

Although i don't think Palmer was the problem last year, i wouldn't mind if we ship him to AZ and bring in Flynn. I don't see spending that kind of money for a qb on a non competitive team. Plus, A Flynn vs Pryor competition would make for an entertaining training camp.

Matt Flynn remains the property of the Seahawks, multiple days after reports emerged that he’ll be traded to the Raiders.

But the widespread belief for now is that the trade will indeed get done, and that it will happen soon.

The two teams have haggled over draft-pick compensation, with former Green Bay colleagues Reggie McKenzie and John Schneider, now the General Managers of the Raiders and Seahawks, respectively, twisting each other’s arms to get the best possible deal.

If/when (when) Flynn becomes a Raider, the question becomes whether the Raiders will remain interested in West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith (if they ever were in the first place). With Flynn not getting huge money and with the Raiders still lukewarm on Terrelle Pryor, the Raiders could take Smith with the third overall pick.

The other practical consequence of Flynn’s arrival in Oakland will be the departure of Carson Palmer, either by trade (with a greatly reduced contract) or by release. He reportedly is interested in playing for the Cardinals or 49ers. (We still think the Seahawks make the most sense, if he truly prefers being a backup on a contender to being the starter for another struggling team.) If Palmer lands in Arizona, that’s another top-10 team that could pass on Smith.

Now that the Bills have Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson, they could be out of the running for a rookie quarterback in the top 10.

That’s three teams reportedly interested in Geno Smith and/or Matt Barkley who could be passing on passers at the top of round one, which could fuel a slide for all quarterbacks out of the top 10 and, barring a trade, straight through the teens.

Unless, of course, Shaun King of NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk is accurate in his strong belief that the Jaguars will take Smith with the second selection in the draft.

Flynn trade is expected to be finalized soon | ProFootballTalk

Oakland Raiders agree to trade with Seattle Seahawks for Matt Flynn -- sources - ESPN

Raiders to trade for Matt Flynn

The Oakland Raiders have an agreement in principle to acquire quarterback Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks for two draft picks -- one in the 2014 draft and a conditional pick in 2015, according to league sources.

The Raiders also are trying to finalize a trade that will send Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals for minimal compensation, sources said.

The Seahawks signed the 27-year-old Flynn as a free agent last offseason from Green Bay before drafting Russell Wilson, who won the starting role in the preseason and led the team to a wild-card playoff win against the Washington Redskins. Flynn has made only two career starts and threw only nine passes last season.

Flynn's contract has him scheduled to make $5.25 million in base salary this season.

Palmer is scheduled to make $13 million in base salary this season and a source has said it is unlikely he would agree to restructure his contract.

The 33-year-old Palmer passed for 4,018 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season for the Raiders, who acquired the quarterback from the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2011 season for a 2012 first-round draft pick and a second-round selection in the 2013 draft.

And so it begins... can't be ANY worse than having Carson Bum-er back there

and i love pryor's willingness to compete... cuz he has to know he's not quite ready to be an everyday starter... not with those throwing mechanics.

once teams get more film on him and his tendencies... i can see it being pretty ugly out there

just get some packages for the kid where you utilize his strength... his legs

:blessed: :to: Thank you McKenzie. He really ain't playing with the way he is cleaning house. He is trying to rebuild this Raiders team the way he rebuilt the Packers by using the draft primarily for talent instead of FA. No more overpaid and overrated bums on the squad now. :obama:
