I thought it was pretty apparent Nas was trying to cash in on The Sopranos hype at the time. That record aged horribly too.

yeah looking back the lyrics were typical nas Bragadocious bullshyt, but you can't fukk with that kinda beat. helps having a major label i suppose. mega get out my way >>> anything in that era imo, overall

this is the first rap album Ive listened from start to finish since HHID.

It is a typical Nas record, highs, lows...with one must skip track.

But hey thats good enough for me. Illmatic aint walking through that door.

Gods Stepson was good but it overall was NOT better than the original records...ESPECIALLY the Alchemist produced tracks...only songs flat out better was The Cross and Warriors Song...Get Down was on par but not better...and Last Real nikka Alive was on par but not better...I Can COULD'VE been better than the original cause the sample was crack but he fukked it up wit the drums...the original Made You Look was FLAT OUT better than 9ths version...he didn't even remake all the songs on God's Son...I still like God's Stepson...mixture of both those wouldve been a classic...

i agree with this for the most part. i ultimately ended up just rocking with Gods Stepson though because it was a uniformed sound.

One Mic is just corny. Doo Rags is 900 million times the song One Mic is and it has the "weightiness" you love.

We need a referendum on corniness. I get not liking it as much as "Doo Rags" (bleary eyed nostalgia without context isn't my thing, but it's still good) or "Nothing Lasts Forever" (Another good song, but Nas' flow and the chorus annoys the hell out of me here), but corny?

I have no idea what's corny about this track.

Nas went back and shouted him out after he found out heavy gave it to him...he changed his verse around just to make sure to give him props...but that has nothing to do with what u said...u mentioned the dancehall part..which Nas had nothing to do with..Heavy D made that..and sent it for Nas to spit over specifically...so it is what it is..

So, By your count Ghost isnt as good an MC as AZ or Inspectah Deck either. He's actually better than both.

You've already decided LIG is classic? In two weeks you've figured ths out? THAT is laughable to me. I remember people said the same thing about all Kanyes albums, Be, WTT, that Clipse album etc.

I've expressed my issues with LIG. If you can rock to lullaby beats than by all means go head. Have at it. But don't begrudge Big Doe Rehab in the process when it employs the same clean, bigger budget sound sans the schmaltz.


As far as who I have ahead of Nas....id say most consistent acts as IMO Nas has been so erratic and frustrating and flat out bad 50% of the time he's REMOVED HIMSELF from the equation.
