I never said that the collab was good. All I'm sayin' is They good friends, so they did a song together No politics behind that.
Nas did 2 concept albums and niccas hated, now he does a non concept album and the hipster community hates (He lost more credibility when he said Nas never went outside his lane too).
What can Nas do to satisfy everyone? nothing, so let him do him.

not to be disrespectful to my brothers of other races.... but i take with a grain a salt anyone who doesn't really live that hiphop life. Or really can decipher what Nas' talks about when reviewing his albums. If nas sampling melle mel is corny to you then I don't know what to say, you don't love hiphop. If you think a dope beat has to sound like bmf or need synthesizers you just aren't completely immersed in the culture. SOMEONE has to rep for the bboys... someone has to bless us with breakbeats. shyt is real, someone has to spit with a conviction in hiphop and be the journalist of hiphop fam and that person when it comes to rhymes is NaS. Lastly if you say NaS is boring you should really look at what excites you. If its just p*ssy, weed, & alcohol I say to you this... YOU ARE BORING. you are the simple one life is WAY bigger then that. Chastising someone for actually having something to say is kind of sad, and the music that people think is the shyt now will only get worst and worst because y'all don't recognize revolutionary music or support anyone that takes chances unless they have a million dollar pr campaign.
People who don't like nas are people who don't understand lines like this.
Its ghetto beef, sinister nikkas snicker through yellow teeth
Alchohol agin my nikkas faster than felonies.
Seems simple but as a hip hop fan and writer. The imagery here is amazing, to those of us that can relate this is real life talk. Let alone the way the words rhyme and flow perfectly over the beat. He has flourishes of lyricism like this on almost every song on this album. If you don't get it or relate to it then "You Wouldn't Understand"
This thread is all over the place but I'mma still chime on.......I had a long critique on the review written yesterday but the site went down.
Main points. He sounds like he hasn't listened to Nas's entire discography and has cherry picked moments in his career to criticize. People that hate on the beats haven't poured through all the albums and are just going off of popular opinion. I mean just go back to his last album Untitled and you'll see this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
Then he talks about Nas pandering and picks at the features. Main ones he hates on is Ross, Swizz and Amy Winehouse. Does he know anything about Nas. He's friends with Swizz and has had and intimate relationship with Amy. He's putting people he likes on the album. He even said himself he likes Ross cause he reminds him of Issac Hayes. Maybe he enjoyed making Summer On Smash. He even said Def Jam didn't like the non-commericalness of the album
Vibe:This is probably the most stripped down Nas album fans have heard in a long time. Did you have any of the Def Jam suits complain that you werent being commercial enough with this release? Nas:Lets be real, this is a business. Its always about money, but when it came to Life Is Good I told Salaam and No I.D. that I wanted to make music that was age appropriate and real to who I am. And that was still connecting with todays hip-hop fan. But the truth is, we dont know that market. We dont know who that consumer is. So that no longer became the focal point for this album. Now its about doing what we love. To make music with No ID and Salaam, who were both poppin in the 90s and still poppin today, they were the perfect producers to work with me. This record took on a feeling of an era thats been gone for a while.
If your going to review the album, review the album. Not the life story and career of Nas. He hardly talks about the album and instead chooses to speak on subjects that are irrelevant. Not saying the album or Nas are perfect, but come on did he even listen to the album. A few faults I noticed were at times the rhymes didn't fit and Nas has switched his flow up, or it sounded like he was rushing. But this isn't about Life Is Good this is about someone with an elementary knowledge of Nas, saying his career has amounted to shyt after his debut.
This is getting talked about more than the XXL review because of how asinine the review is and people actually believing the crap he's spewing.
yes he can. he can cut the commercial bullshyt and return to what made him great. he's NEVER done that wholly for an album since you know what. Never. maybe, just maybe, he should consider that option. call me crazy.
his commercial run is over. he'd sell the same amount of records regardless. he's accumulated enough wealth to take a "risk" if you'd even call it that.
