Low-key might be Bret/Taker at Summerslam. Kicked off the Taker/HBK feud which birthed HIAC & Kane. HBK winning led to him facing Bret at SS which led to the screwjob. The screwjob led to the ‘Bret screwed Bret’ promo on Raw which birthed the Mr McMahon character. HBK dropped the belt to Austin at WM which led to the Austin/Mcmahon feud and the rest is history.

I will go earlier to the double turn at WM13 the next night Bret had that promo and set everything up you posted.

The answer is The Montreal Screwjob.

That one match:
-Birthed the 'Mr. McMahon' character to new heights (could have been a long Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon rivalry, but instead Stone Cold elevated to that spot)
-Effectively ended Bret Hart's career (he was DOA over in WCW and was never going to see top dog status with Hogan, nWo, Sting, etc. all over there with top dollar contract and creative control)
-Broke up the Hart Foundation group (Bret, Davey Boy, and Neidhart all left to WCW after the screwjob), which led to:
-Owen being on his own, and having his character changed more toward The Blue Blazer, which led to his death, which stems partly from:
-The Montreal Screwjob, and WWE trying to keep up with that anything can happen 'larger then life' character time period, wanting them to have Owen repel down (even though the repel, luckily, wasnt shown live on PPV.

So, the Montreal Screwjob actually elevated WWE from a distant 2nd place company to push new limits and pass WCW. Has to be the biggest match in the company history.

THAT being said, the most important moment to NOT be live in WWE history is no doubt Owen Hart's accident.

WWE would be out of business if that were live. And with WCW mismanaged as bad as they were, who knows where the wrestling industry would be right now

Too many important matches but one incident was just as important as some of the matches listed and that was the "curtain call" in MSG.

If that doesn't happen

-Triple H isn't punished and wins KoTR that year not Austin
-Austin 3:16 is never born
-We likely don't get the attitude era because Austin wouldn't be as over
-WCW probably would have won the war because of it

It's definitely interesting to think about.

I don't know of this incident. What is the curtain call?
